DDDDAAAAH DAAAHHH beep beep,, on tonigths crimewatch.. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN!!! DEERRH DAHH BEEP BEEP etc..
Sorry coulnt resit...
Ok comments: - The shading is a lil over excessive still you may get away with thsi if you apply a "brighter overlay" to the whole image or if not then repaint the parts. - the hair is neat, my brushes help you?
Start to tweek it, and add the detail, get rid of the bad lines, and smooth things out, make them less blured and I think u'd be onto a winner..
Nice work |

Dear Freddio mate,
the eyes still look a bit sketchy, try to smudge it and add some more details in it...
Well, that's my advice, I'm sure there are more people who know better...

Freddio,
the shadow under the right eye is a little too dark in my opinion.
For the eye you can add a white reflect on the top left of the pupil to make it realistic..
good work !

I really like the use of color, but my personal opinion is that it looks too "blended," or soft. Maybe that's a personal preference, but I think it's a dead giveaway of the medium. Also, the lighting seems uneven and the structure could be tighter.
Here's a self-portrait by Frank Frazetta that I posted in another thread; it's a great guide.

Frazetta? That hack?
Har, har. Anyway, Freddio, it's been said many times, but you should really sketch out the entire picture, background and all, before anything else. It's obvious that you're focusing on single areas of the painting at once. Don't do it. If you stare at one section, you'll get to where to can't see the forest for the trees.
I'd lay off the burn tool for a while. Burning seems to make things look --well- burnt. Not a good way to paint flesh.

Freddio,
No, you're not painting a background, and you're going for the details too soon.
By "sketch" I mean with paint (after you have a solid drawing). Just block in the planes of the face with a big brush. Think about it geometrically. Then you can start working smaller and smaller.
Spooge Demon has proposed that [anyone who's interested] can take part in a painting workshop with him. See his post.
Anyway, hope that helps at all |

How about a mirror as the background. I mean placing the face in the mirror and trying to get it to look like a reflection. That could look pretty cool.
... and you should get yourself a nicer model, this ones ugly. |

Fredio, if you were burned as badly as this picture indicates, then I hope the bandages come off soon.
Seriously, a sunburn is much, much more uniform, covering the whole face, with a SLIGHT difference in value here and there (usually everywhere BUT the eyes).
Again, my suggestion is to block in rough and go from there. |

sunburns are a bear to paint and make it look like that. A suggestion, if you so choose, throw in some raccoon eyes of white skin around the eyes, that way when you paint the face sunburnt, you wont look like a cliche colored indian with short blonde hair. Now wouldn't that be something. As of now, going darker in the eye sockets make him look like he has a black eye, punched really bad. Good luck with it...
That Frazetta piece was done in anger after failing miserably again at getting work from a book cover company. The power of emotions!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I understand, Freddio.
I'm just trying to give you the most useful advice I can. Take it as you will.
Fred, I always thought Franky Boy looked a little ticked off in that painting. |
