3dpalette is down and probably will be down for a week or so.
Read about it on www.gfxartist.com

Hmm, that's a shame. Can't they post the entries somewhere else in the meantime... Even just dump them in a directory as .jpg files and throw in a textfile that has credits for all the images?

I'm up for, "The Contest Entry Thread,"
However, cause Immi, provided the forum for the contest, it would suck to take it away from his site. If you're out there Immi, what is your opinion on this.
I say out of good faith, we should let him have a say, it's only fair. |

AAAAAARGH! All I can say is I'm so sorry guys. I tried to connect to the site yesterday aswell, and found it was down. I thought it was probably just temporary, but I messaged our programmer anyway, and I found out that crap news. Apparently, what happened, was Zyfly, ever the numbnutted asshole (I don't like this guy very much btw) who works at an isp, which in turn supplies the space, got in a fight with his boss, and they pulled the plug on frag (our hosts.)
As much as we'd like to just pack up and leave this idiot, there are a lot of complications (one being that so many years ago, when know one knew better, zyfly registerd 3dpalette and he owns it...even though he does dick all on it.)
Again, I'm really sorry. I tried to post a message here last night, but I couldn't connect to dhabs either. The best I could do was get the word out to GFX Artist. Anyways, You guys all deserve to see the entries, so for now, I have uploaded a zip of the html that we were almost ready to upload last night. http://www.geocities.com/anon21345/acontest.zip
Just unzip it, and click on the html to load it up. All the images are in thumbnail format (150x113). I'll try upload all the full size images for you guys onto the geocities account. |

Tinusch, I'm sorry man, but we just had so many entries we had to be choosey for this gallery. I think Kenneth Scott said some good stuff when he judged gamearts contest: "I guess I'm saying, you're about to get dealt a subjective opinion, and it's in no way a reflection on your abilities. " However, we are planning on putting all the entries up shortly.
As for Vebjorn...the man is a machine. He sent in 6 entries I believe, each of them stunning. And don't ask him how long each one took, because it might make u cry...
My favourites, in no particular order:
-All of Vebjorns
-The Caravan by Micke
-Urban Lady by Joachim
-Stalker by Timur Mutsaev (done in watercolour btw)
-Boomstick by Christer Sveen (wow...i really love this one)
-Lunch Time (this one is cool!)

Wow, great job all participants! I guess my one favorite would have to be "Stalker" (great movie btw, decent book - the Strugatskys have written much better..)
And Joachim's is awesome as well, I'm in love with the textures on the left-side wall... Joachim, is there any way you could post an original res closeup of it?
Frost, yours is very cool too and has some stunning details - I already noticed the closeup of his face on your webfolio page a few days ago and wondered what that image was
Hmm, what can I say, I'm just glad I didn't participate because I suck so much...

Well, I'm now certain that I got schooled by you guys, youse who composed the image beforehand! (message to self - compose entire image in sketch beforehand)
Awesome pics! I like:
-burntime (by ???) looks like a young Gordon Freeman with white hair.
-joachim's (rare fully clothed female!)
-micke's (detail-tastic!)
-frosts (the police one preferred :P
-veb's dreadlock (oily-tastic!)
-stalker (mad mix of watercolor bg and medium-lined details
-waste4 by (forgot) for it's starcrafty-ness
-bone100400(turn up the brightness!!!!)
I'm so looking forward to seeing the other ones too. Mine didn't get in that there geocities directory cuz it's kinda... well, unfinished... oh well. But hey! My thumbnail rocks!! prepare for the small letdown when you click it next week and see the unfinished gun and knife on her belt. woot! |

another piece I'd like to mention is Canibal by Rick -- I think it stands out from the rest, incredible suggestive power.
kudos!

Damnation!!! Loads of great(er) stuff indeed! Just a couple of my highlights...
Mikael: Great contrast in a great image
Joachim: Sweeeet! Did you draw a gun for the left hand and changed your mind, or is she pointing somewhere?
Vebjorn: Top stuff! Damn you, you really wanted that geforce I especially liked Dreadlock...
Kos.Mandis: yes, with a D immi
Carlos, Boomstick, Burn Time, stalker, Nun all really awesome... Boy I'm glad I'm not the judge
So when are the results out? |

Anyone noticed the 'Dhab/Mullins' text in
Eyefool's picture?.. That's odd ;P
Anyway, I really love Joachim's piece.
Just look at the background, the people in
the street, the lighting, the girl (not
overdone larry croft'ish!).
Yum, three dumbs up.
