Hi ya'll...
Here's a little reading as the pic loads (82kb).... back in high school, portraits were always my Achilles heel, proportions and value just weren't my forte.. now that highschool is over, and I recently obtained my Wacom tablet, I'm back practicing again. So this makes my first image into the digital step. What do you guys think?
Worked from a black and white photo reference, so the colors are invented, I elongated the face (ack) and re-did his clothing (turned it into a quasi uniform.) ....But Something odd strikes me about the poor guy's face...minus the lack of hair.
Full sized, 266kb, 870x717 version: http://members.home.net/jeremy12/TRUE_final.jpg
Thanks! --

Hey mister.
For that being your weakness you sure hide it well. Maybe the bridge of the nose needs a little bit of work, and the entire face seems almost as if its too far right on the head, you know what i mean vern? I'm digging the bottom of the barrel to help here, since i think it looks fine.

hey synj !
Thanks for your response! I agree the right side is what's bothering my eye.. i think because in the original photo the face is more curved than straight. Ahh.. next portrait then. :P
By the way, I love your work. =)
Graphically yours,

very nice.
first off though, the whole face makes me think of marble. just the colors you used. i somewhat like the effect though.
second the left eye (his left)is slightly rounder on the top than his right eye. also, the pupil on the same eye is not centered, and is too much at eleven o' clock on the iris.
and last, the cleft above the lips is centered with the tip of the nose, rather than centered with the part of the nose that attaches to the face. i would nudge this, the mouth, AND the chin to the left side of the picture, as it gives the impression he is protruding his jaw slightly.
oh, one last thing , his left eyebrow is bushier and rounder than his right, however unnoticeable.
hope that helped some!
nice job again.
=-)

Cool, one thing.. the face is generally symmetrical, well, unless you're some sort of freakish retard...
