Fallen,

You are swiftly becoming one of my favorite artists! I LOVE your stuff! But a quick question, did you do this from your head, or from a photo-reference? Cuz, as talented as I know you are, it kinda lessens the impact of your work knowing that you always have a photo to reference. I would really really really like to see you paint something totally from scratch... I'm sure it would kick ass.

I am totally in awe with the shiny leather type stuff she is wearing.. it's painted to perfection. GREAT WORK!

great work
i've loved ur work since i first saw it.
just a quick question about ur technique. what tools do u use to make ur images? to me it seems like the airbrush tool with some slight usage of the dodge/burn tool. i'd really like to know how u make ur pics.
thanks

excelent work. love the colours on the clothes and the soft tones on the face. you also captured the expression on her face very well.

personaly i dont find that using a photo lessens the "impact" of the picture. especialy when your painting a real person and not some made up one.

In case you guys were wondering, that girl with the white rabbit in the matrix is Ada Nicodemou who starred in the Australian series of Heartbreak High before doing the matrix.

Just now you know =}

Sowler- Thanx.
random- plain?
HumanClay-sigh...Thanx for the kind words. I used photo reference as i prefer to do. Even when i do pieces from my imagination, i still use reference, photo or otherwise. I believe everyone should use reference, and most great artists do. Boris Vallejo, whos been painting for years and years, still to this day uses reference for every single painting he does. Olivia DeBerardinis is the same. Granted, most of the pics i post in here are directly painted from a photo, but thats my goal..im trying to completely reproduce a photo. Some of the people in this forum, remaining nameless, seem to think they are 'better' artists than others because they use no reference, just think for a sec how much better their images would look if they tool a little time to study how an eye for example actually looks in relation to their pic. Just my opinion but i believe strongly in it.
Dakkan- your right.
zapman- I wanted to try to do vinyl.
Guy- Thanx and HERE HERE!
dennison-Thanx
ilmi- i just may do that
MrWeasel-um...i doubt that but thanx anyway.

The pic's all good, but what I wanted to say is this:

Reference - I think it's a question of what you think making images is all about. For me, it's not about reproducing reality as well as I can, but rather about creating something new. That is why I rarely use photographic reference - I simply find it boring.

i'm with humanclay and hennifer on this one. Would be nice to see you come up with something that isn't existing flat shapes. You seem to have painted enough portraits to have built an incredible library of facial features and other tidbits in your head. I'm very anxious to see you use them!
