I'm finishing a BA graphic design and I want to do a Master diploma on Character Animation (I don't know if that's what it's called in the USA as well, I'm in Uk)...
Do you know any REALLY good courses in the USA? I'm seriously thinking about it and I'd appreciate any advise...
Thanx! |

I am in Canada... I would go to Vancouver Film School... but this is USA you are talking about. This school looks pretty good, there are instructors/special guests from the industry who have made movies like Blade Runner, 5th Element and such. I am not too sure about the specific course you are asking for though. http://www.gnomon3d.com/
Here is Vancouver Film School. http://vfs.com/ |

Vancouver Film School is quite good and expensive
I am in Vancouver right now and planning to go next year
Its about $20,000 a year for Canadians
and about $65,000 a year for international students. I think they have dorms as well but its a bit more.

I go to the Academy of Art college, in San Francisco. Though I'm not a 3d major, I know they have an awesome program for that, and tons of SGI machines running the latest software. Also ILM and Pixar are not further than 10 miles away. Rather pricey however... |

The NCCA in bournemouth is pretty neat.
I know quite a lot of people there, and been
there a few times to check some things out,
my overall impression was quite good.
For a semi-complete (paradox?) list of
visual effects schools in Europe check :

Most 'known' school can be found in the list,
including urls and other information.
c'est tout..

My brother went to The Vancouver Film School, its only a year long and you really learn a lot. My brother got hired to animate for The Prince of Egypt II movie by Dreamworks right after he got out of school. Not bad for his first animation job. But he says that most of the work is in California so you might want to think about where the action is.

I wanna get a qualifcation in 3d animation as well. But there is nowhere that does specific 3d/character animation in Australia, like there seems to be every where else. Am I missing something? Does anybody know where in australia I can get a qualfication in 3d animation? It kinda sucks having to teach yourself all the time. |

Hey amnesia, I'm in the same boat, but I've been researching for quite some time. I'm planing to go to QANTM (yeah, I'm plugging it yet again), and doing their Software Development Games course, which is a year long intense course which goes through all the aspects of putting out puter games. They also have Online Courses for 3D Studio MAX.
The Australian Film Television & Radio School ( http://www.aftrs.edu.au/ ) based in Sydney has a certificate in 3d Animation.
The Academy of Interactive Entertainment ( http://www.aie.act.edu.au/ ) has a few 3D Animation courses, either specialising in Maya or 3dsmax, aswell as a Diploma in Game Design.
Then you've got Unis in most states that will have some sought of course in 3d stuff, but of course it's better to goto a place that specialises in it. So, check out those sites, see if it's whatcha want, and go for it. If ya wanna chat abt it more, feel free to email me. That goes for any other Aussies aswell. @:-)

By the way, Vancouver Film School is a certified training center for programs like Maya and stuff... so it's definitely a plus. Anyone else know more kick ass school? |

just to clarify some things on Vancouver Film School. Yes it's expensive, about 19,000cdn for canadians and 19,000 american for international students. It's reputation is up there in the top 4-5 school's in North America.
Be prepared to work your ass off (a concept some students never fully understood) I believe in addition to working your ass off, you have to have some talent coming into the school. Usually there are about 2-3 really good reels per class (though this number has been increasing). In the end it's a great program if your willing to give up your life for 10 months I could go on, and on, but this is just meant to be some general info |

i'm about to graduate with an Associates in 3D Animation ... i'm using maya .. its pretty badass ... and i definately wanna continue on to get a BA or BFA (even though everyone keeps saying you don't need it in this field) .. but since my dad is still offering to pay for my education, and i have the chance to do it .. i'm going to take the offer ... i am currently in the west coast (USA) .. and curious of what schools there may be (i do know of some schools in the bay area) .. but is there any good schools down in southern or anything? ... i have been to busy lately to start looking for a new school (gotta graduate the one i'm in before i can move to another) ..
