Okay you guys, let's close this discussion and let's get started. I've posted a similar reply in the Digital art archive web page.. ok peeps need some feed back topic, but I thought it was worth a new thread.

So. We need 5 (or more) editors who will update the archive on the Digital Artist's Resource (one editor for each page). If you would like to help us set up the archive, please reply with your name and email address.

So far, the editors are:

  • Page 1: A-E, by: 4s
  • Page 2: F-J, by: Alexv
  • Page 3: K-O, by: Cerbero
  • Page 4: P-T, by: Mongoose
  • Page 5: U-Z, by: N/A

I'll let you know more soon... From all previous replies, I assumed it was okay to put up the archive on the DAR, if I misunderstood, please let me know.

Me Striker Proximo and Dakkan are still working on the archive that we had started to develop. And it is just that...an archive and possibly in the future hosting for artists. We have quite a few submissions and a lot of work put into it and hopefully we chould be posting somethig up soon.

Oscar's page has been running for milleniums longer than all the rest. Not only that, it's a slick design, and it has a lot of people backing it up. Including me.

I nominate that Oscar's site be the OFFICIAL archive site. It was the first.

Oscar, count me in. i'd like to help. your gallery setup is perrfect. I know basic html (no javasrcipt or anything like that.) but I can copy and paste
if enough people want to help, you could even have 2 people per page. (like everyone, i don't have a Lot of spare time but it's doable)

btw, how do you plan on additional content to the galleries? by submissions?? etc.

Ok I am not trying to smear Oscar's site or anything but I do not think that what he is proposing for the archive would be as beneficial as what we are planning. From what I have heard Oscar is going to implement a scripting system that puts thumbnails on his site that link to the artists own personal site. If this is the case this kinda goes against our original idea of having a Professional looking site display the artist work. And I am pretty sure he is not planning on ever hosting individual artists like we are planning. Once again this is not a flame of Oscar's site. His site is a great resource. We are merely trying to look out for the common interest of the Forum members and we believe that an individual site for the archive and hosting would be more beneficial.

I'd like to help Oscar. I have just recently gotten into the digital art community and think it would be a good chance to meet with other artists and learn from them. I know HTML, I am learning DHTML, and after that, I plan on studying Javascript and PHP.

Whoo-ho-ho-ho, now wait a minute here! There is no "side taking" going on, nor is there competition. I just took the initiative to get this thing started... Because you guys (Striker, Tittle, Proximo and Dakkan) remained silent after your last post and I kinda felt like you've lost the spirit.

Anyway, I've had my Galleries up since the start of my page, the only thing I need now, is some content. So, whether we join forces or not, I'm still gonna do this. With, of course, the (highly appreciated) help of our co-posters

Oscar Alexander | The Digital Artist's Resource

PS. Tittle, the thumbnails will link to the fullsize version of the pic, which will be loaded into our site, from the artist's server (bandwidth + diskspace issues). Much like it works on this forum.

I think there is some confusion. many people are like i like this one better and what not. the fact is the one that we are doing is just for fun .. we will finish it and see how it goes. Oscar you did make yours first and that is cool. no big deal, i think its kind of stupid for people trying to take sides and what not, we are working for the same goal.. let me forget its just for fun! so lets just stop all the side taken and do what we will.. thanks ..

Have you guys looked at Elfwood?
http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/

It has a great system - the only thing wrong (imo) is there was no quality control. You get heaps of rough and (sorry to say) childish pencil sketches... (imo) 70% of the stuff is not worth the bandwidth.

Otherwise the backend is pretty cool (upload files, thumbnails creation, file info/description to put on the generated html, etc), and it has individual artists pages as well as search driven displays. (Nevermind the site design.)

I am considering (slowly, and I mean slowly, I work 60 hr weeks) working on something that might help in this project, on any of your websites. Let you know if it comes about.
