Check this out:
Ever cursed the sooper-slow smudge-function in Photoshop?
Here's a little, allthough far from perfect, workaround:
Make your own smudge-brushes! I have mine halfway soft. And then uncheck 'spacing' in the brush-edit window.
I just tried a size 100 brush with it and it's nearly realtime! But - you have to work carefully, because when the stroke is too fast, you get sputtering. Besides that it works quite awesome.
Not an ultimate solution, but a nice addition to our PS-trick-chest!

Thanks Loki. That actually works, you just have to do the smudgeing a bit carefull (like you said). I used to go to Painter for smudgeing or 'add water' as its called there. Now I can finally get rid of Painter...hehe..then again probably not. Painter still have that awesome glowbrush.
Thanks for the tip, again.

I've also learned that for doing those loooong smudge strokes it might be adviseable to marquee-select the area you're working on. This will limit the amount of Ram needed for these operations and therefor less risk of tapping into that slow virtual memory.
