This is my latest picture, made as a tutorial image for Oscar Alexanders "Digital Artists Resources" page.
Alex asked me to do some kind of exaggerated anatomy the way "I like to do it", so the reason why I did a super hero is NOT because I was inspired from another picture or something like that, but because I've always liked Captain America and thought that some sort of "old fashion" propaganda picture with him would be fun to do . The image was originally painted in 3700*5348 pixels in phshop.
Since I'm from Norway, it would have probably been more suitable with Captain Norway, but unfortunately he doesn't exists

Anyway, I hope you'll like it !

Sh!t that is damn good Joachim. i love the light that comes in from the top right and the shading on the guy is awsome, but may i point out something. it bugs me a bit. his right foot should have some more shading under it. it will just make it look more like his foot is on the ground. sorry to point that out. but damn that is a very good drawing

Whoa, that looks awesome. You did it all in Photoshop? It looks like the flag at the background has the airbrush effect and Cap has an acrylic water base feel to it. Still, very good!

Keep it up!

Really neat pic Joah, I can't thank you enough for your effort! Anyway, I'll fix the tutorial as soon as Joachim has finished it... You can find it at the Tutorials section of the Digital Artist's Resource next week...

Please keep in mind, we're working REALLY hard on this site since it's still under heavy construction.

Wheeeey, so much nice feedback. I'm blushing!

Also, Guy, I agree that I could put a bit more shadow below the right foot.
The background looks more airbrushed, that I can understand. The reason why...-I did make a 3d object of a flag, and then heavily retouched it in phshop. But I didn't have the patient to make it more in a "rough" style as the captain himself. Actually, I also wanted to keep the flag this way to give a bit more depth into the picture. But, I guess I will write about all this in the "work in progress" tutorial for Alex's page.

Joachim

VERY nice pic. It has a very 40s/50s propaganda poster look to it. The period quality warrants the hammer and sickle at the bottom, but I agree with Shizo that it is a little handed in this day. But as I said, it's a period piece, so the hammer/sickle would represent Communism rather then specifically Russia. (not that communism doesn't have its good points (in theory)).

Plz, Shizo don't misunderstand !!!
It's not like I hate Russia.

The reason why I did it like this is...-I wanted it to look like an old propaganda poster from the 50's...you know the Cold War with USA vs. Soviet. And since I made Captain America, it just made sense to do it this way. But, I'm from Norway, so I live closer to Russia myself. But, if you have ever seen the propaganda posters from the 50's, even commersial posters had a hidden message .
So, don't go nuts....The war is over, and this is just a joke !

I think what I like most is the way you've pulled off a very subtle tonal trick in the areas where the shield casts a shadow, especially the boot: The flag environment casts a slight blue tint over it. Beautiful.
