Very nice Mikael! Great use of clean, crisp images with depth fading... and nice character designs/colors/costumes/etc...
How did you create it?
(looks almost like hand-drawn textures on simplified 3D models...?) |

Yes, it's actually Realtime models for the game. They are re-touched quite a bit. I
found out that this is a very fast way to
do it if your'e in a hurry. I simply
gathered the Characters in one scene
placed out lights and rendered it out in a
high resolution. Then i started to re-touch
the characters to avoid getting the dull realtime look. Then i placed every characters in separate layers and blurred the
The characters that were behind the guy with the gun. Characters were designed by me.

Nice design and good job retouching the characters! The one thing that bothers me is the DOF blurring - it's basic gaussian, but camera blur just doesn't look like that. I've also ran into this annoying problem...
There are some quite realistic looking camera blur filters available for After Effects at least but they generally cost an arm&leg. Of course one can try simply painting and smudging to get that look but it's very hard to make it look any good.

I checked out your site, Mikael. I'm extremely impressed. Your gallery pics are very enjoyable to look at. The diversity in styles and attitude/mood is refreshing.
I especially like your self-portraits - the stylized one with the pink ears/nose, and the more realistic version with the blue jumpsuit.
Very, very nice!
When my site is ready, I'm going to link it to yours. More people should see your stuff...
Thanks for the breakdown of steps
Ciao,
