Hey Everyone,
I am trying to really get into Photoshop. I've been doing photoshop for a long while, basically just text logos and text interfaces. Clean stuff recently ( http://industrial24.tf2flak.com/k3v.jpg ).

Anyhow, I would really like to get into drawing. I'll be honest, I can't draw for shiat . I was wondering if anyone went from not being able to draw, to doing it .

I've looked at tutorials all over the net, but I'd figure I would go striaght to the source. I've seen tutorials at Scoops, 3DPalette, and here.

Please give any tips you have, tutorials, anything. Appriciated alot.

Thanks ahead of time. And also, what is the best mouse/wacom for drawing?

I'm firmly in the opinion that drawing can be learnt by anyone although obviously, talent and creativity can't be taught. I was never interested in drawing until I was about 15(i'm 19 now) I tried it one day because I was bored shitless.

Most of the tutorials at digital art sites like 3dpalette and others only cover digital techniques. I've got some links for u though, and we should have our big ass resource up by the end of the weekend(which has a ton of links to learning drawing)

this is all I have on me right now(I'm at my laptop sorry) but as i said, we'll have a whole lot of links up real soon at 3dpalette, so hang tight

Everyone gives the typical, practice a lot, draw all the time yadda yadda. So I won't say that all over again. But then again, you might not have heard that speech before. So here's a summary.

Practice a lot.
Be observant.
Use reference material (real life, books).
Study other peoples art.

Ermm, I can't think of anything else but this one thing....

Just let the pencil flow! I know some ppl that are *trying* to learn how to draw, but their main problem is, they try to nail that line perfectly the first go. DON'T do this!!!
Just be very loose and use long stokes. All good pictures have some sort of natural flow, so just follow it! Be nice and messy.
Don't worry about messing up too much because you can always refine the drawing later. That's why erasers were invented

All I'm saying is try not to be too tight arsey and neat first go. You'll just end up frustrated. Drawing is meant to be fun, not stressful (i know it can be though... but that's another story)

Hope it helps

Yeah, I understand that creativity cannot be taught. I have it though, I know that. I just cant really draw, when I just go with the flow I can, but otherwise I cant. I just really wish I could =).

Thanks a bunch Immi, and Jason. Ill try this stuff out.

the best thing you can do is get a pencil and some paper and practice that way. Copy stuff if you're not feeling particulary inspired. You won't get good until you open your mind, expand all horizons and keep at it. Open your eyes to things around you, notice shaddows and how they fall etc... Remember vanishing points and light source and all that high school art class stuff. Hard work pays off in the end

Good luck

unfortunetly art is like any other "art form"
the reason it is regarded as just that is because not everyone is good at it. Although practise and effort go a long way to improving ur ability to replicate something in front of you, doesnt mean you'll become any better as an artist.

This may seem very depressing, but ive met loads of people who have been in the same situation as you, however i have found in many that it isn't that they have no talent, it is because they havent stumbled upon their own ditinct style, the most advice i can give is do your best to do it your own way and experiment.

Good Luck!

This will most likely show how big of a no talent dick I am, but I'll say it anyway.
Try cheating, thats what I do because I cant draw either. Take a look at my thread called "Paw island artwork". Yes, they look good, Yes, I colord them, and yes, I shaded them too. BUT, I had to scan coloring book images to get the outlines.
