Lemur> The robot is very nice. Loving it. About the halo toys, Square enix did two series for Halo reach. The one i have is this, Link. There is more, if you do a search. It is very nicely done. I only bought one. Struggling artist needs to thrifty and not anyhow spend.
Howie> I'm strangely attracted to your abstract experiments. Very interesting.
Quintus Dias> Sweeetttt..~~
eightball> Thanks.
To whoever that help> I'm having problem seeing the images posted by some people. Like Mon, eightball. The only jpg image that i can see is "To view, register at: bit.ly/imageshack-domain." Is there any way over come this? or do i have to register?
Mon> Althought i can't see your images here. I visit your blog every time you post. Haa. So. Very nice! Love your color and brush strokes alot. Hope i'm refering to the correct pieces.
STPo, Vahn, viag, All> Great stuff.
Tomasis> Love the color. I think if you drop those dark line to a lighter value. The illusion will be stronger.
One for today. Trying to limit myself to a small value range to see how far i can push.

Thanks RayToh! I really like the idea of using a small value range...I tried to do that with this first portrait but I was too tempted to boost the contrast

Tzan and Bierberg> No luck. T^T Think i have to register. Thanks anyway.
Bierberg> The last piece still looks cool.
Howie> I tried to limit my value because i was reading some old forum posting by Craig Mullins compiled by Heirwegh Jonas. He was talking about allocating value to different part of a painting? Design using shapes and value. It just click suddenly. I don't mean i fully understand. But i just suddenly realise the concept is very simple but yet complex. Like some jedi, Zen thingy. That why i started trying. I guess to some, this is very basic knowledge but i suddenly realise i have been missing this point for so long until now. Got to work hard and try to re-understand some of the basic theory. T^T By the way interesting color scheme for the second portrait.
Tomasis> Interesting study.

thanks RayToh, I think it's a really great exercise and it's surprising how much you can do with a limited value range...I tried doing it again one in black and white and another in color, stayed far away from the contrast slider this time :p ... also I really like your oil paintings
thanks viag! awesome environment, the smiley faces made me
this page is just awesome in general

eightball> Wow. Thanks eightball for changing a different host. Actually i tried to understand the problem. I think it got to do with some country is not registered with them? I guess in my case. Singapore is not be registered? (Whatever that means?) Thats why if someone in singapore wanted to see the images (Example, Me! ), he got to go through the registration himself. But anyway no more techy stuff. Back to art!
viag> T^T. Nice nice.
Howie> Yeah. I guess it boils down to discipline. I'm thinking exercises like this can tune up our sensitivity to values? But then again. I'm just trying things out. Not sure how all this will end up or am i just beating around the bushes. Try try again.
Painting from memory. I realise if you can simplify what u are looking at. With a basic value scale. (Either a five scale range or a ten scale range. ) Alocating a rough range of values to different part of the scene you are looking at. You can roughy capture the illusion of light. But then again. Best situation is just go there and do a plein air painting. Just some exercise I have been trying out to practise even when i don't have any paint or sketchbook with me.

Raytoh-Mullins' old posts are gold aren't they? I think a great way to get in touch with this is to do sketches pure black and white with graphic shapes (rather than focusing on lines). I only happened upon this recently and its just great fun to go basic and play with shape relationships, and to see how vastly important that basic aspect is.
I remember Craig saying he learnt with gouache, which you have to paint with flat planes rather than blending. You can see his amazing aptitude for using graphic shapes and standalone strokes in so many of his sketches-like the big (under) shapes will (usually) hold the strange textures and effects-then the (top) shapes that really identify the form are often very simple strokes/shapes. The look is so effortless and astounding, cause when you look at one part its just a stroke, stand back and the mood and light of the scene reads so clear! Of course he used many different methods and ways, but I always missed the graphic aspect before cause his light is so immersive. (I'd say its mostly the influence of syd mead showing)
sparth-awesome!
samhell-badass, can't believe I missed seeing them! I like how the guys are just rocking out in the woods, probably involves plenty of mind altering substances lol
viag-dang dude!
Ajtron-beautiful
Vahn-love the monster!
STPo-love the clear sky, dreamy!
Mon-haha the pigs are great!

AjTron, Viag: Sick! Those are looking great!
Juggled a pair of speedpaintings during the 3 hour extended pose we had today; the portrait took a little under 2 hours and the figure took about 45 minutes, give or take. Think I'm starting to get the hang of how to use these brushes best...
