Lemur, kind words thank you. I really like the maps, same back at you actually btw; I really like that you are not afraid to experiment and bend the approach. In the end that is really gonna pay off.

Thanks Lemur, you're colors are showing improvement in the last few pieces, I really dig the maps.
Quintus Dias: From one stressed out student to another, best of luck with your finals
Mon: Beautiful! Love those warms and cools together...
Argh, the time has come to stop avoid hard surface rendering and to just dive into painting architecture, vehicles, tech, and the like. Gotta start somewhere, and I'll be starting from the bottom as I find my feet:
Tried to rescue a broken drawing... |

thanks Quintus,ili,J00B!
Petri-haa, you should come more often! looks like the beginnings of a nice matte!
Howie-thats bold design, very nice.
Bierberg- Love the chalky look, fits the childlike mood of the still life very much.
another map based one, thought it'd make a nice background for a character portrait or something-

Thanks guys, yeah I'm doing a matte painting showreel and right now I'm just creating a sketch of each shot so I can lock down all the plates that I will use.
This one is a day to night shot.
This didn't turn out as well as I hoped, so I might do a second pass to it. Feel free to throw comments (to this thread or as private message) if you see that something is not looking quite right. Note that since this is a day to night exercise I can't move the buildings, I can only change the lighting.
Cheers
Edit: Here's a second pass to it.

Howie: Somehow I missed your comment last time, thank you. The studies you've been doing are really paying off; the horse and particularly the one with the bridges are killing it.
J00B, Mon, Petri.J: Great stuff, guys. Keep it up!
Still super busy with finals so I haven't had any time to do speedpaintings for myself, but I did take one of my earlier ones, put about an hour's worth of polish on it, and turned it in as a final for my composition class:

Lakka-thanks! the space scene landscape is awesome, reminds me of old dinosaur and scifi artwork, makes me feel nostalgic
a couple, trying a new arrangement sort of style where i'll make abstract shapes in a file to the side and try to use them in the painting, or build with them-

Thanks, J00B
Petri.J: Second revision is looking much better, but the buildings don't seem to recede back into the background because there isn't really much atmospheric perspective. Also, the darks are starting to get mottled and posterized. If you can, work in 16bit color so you don't get banding.
Sargent master copy -- not so speedy, but since it took everything I've learned from Fred Flick Stone this semester, I thought I'd post it here...

ili: Yeah I didn't work in 16 bit because that's not the actual plate, it's just a very low res preview version of the plate, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to work in 16 bit even with sketches.
But I will look in to that atmospheric perspective, thanks for your feedback.

sparth, you think so? I seriously thought I was
getting worse. That tower reminds me of a piece
Capt.Fred did for that colossus theme way back.
Do you still experiment with that style? ...The style
when you posted under a different nickname here.
Thanks for the comment btw.
One for the paint to post.
