Heippa Sijun!
Having a new painting on the hard drive? It's sijun posting time! Actually I wanted to post about another thing as well, but let's go painting first as it seems to be more Sijun in spirit.
The 'other thing' is a short film that we produced together with Hannes Vartiainen, called The Death of an Insect. It's a 7 minute dance film about dead animals, taking place in Helsinki, Finland. We finished production last June, and the film is circling on 9 festivals around the world this March. With any luck one of you guys might catch it, if you are the film festival types. Below you will find a link to the trailer, the making of video, and the festival listing along with more information about the film.
The film has quite a bit of 3D animation in it, made in Modo. So we wrote up a forum post over at luxology forums, the guys who make Modo, to shed some light on the various techniques we used to produce the film. I'll link to that as well.
The Freckles painting is an excercise in using only the photoshop default soft brush. I played around a bit with the random hue/saturation settings to bring a tiny bit of variation in the brush stroke colors.
The black and white wasp is a 3D x ray scan of an actual wasp, scanned by the University of Ghent, Belgium. The huge amount of data (approx. 1900x1900 pixels x 800 image slices) was assembled together in After Effects, which surprisingly managed to render out these 3d shots with the intestines and all :P.

totally mindblowing!!!
I love aerial shots with generated dancing bugs. The girl looks lovely. Cool med shallow DOF effects!
I wish I'd know much about AE and 3d as you (i'll read the texts in luxology thread, something to learn about tricks there)
What are you working with now?
i still keep thinking about bugs, probably dream about them at night, hehe _________________ out |
