Let's try a monthly theme, kicking off with a technique created by Sparth in the speedpainting thread:

SQUARES

"you grab the square shape, and you paint. i also used a custom shape made of multiple squares to emulate texture like surfaces."

Post your SQUARED imagery. And feel free to cross-post in/from other threads, where applicable.

What a wonderful idea for a themed thread Sumaleth, awesome. Very Happy

I thought of some kind of caped crusader, feels like squares is perfect for cityscapes.
Sparth Homage. Smile

Nide, that's awesome, real interesting patterns just from the square.

Technology is Godzilla

I find it real interesting how effective the square really is, you get these interesting texture surfaces without even trying too hard. lol

Lemur's underwater pic made me think of this:

Today I Die:
http://ludomancy.com/games/today.html

And here's a couple of other flash games that I'm reminded of when browsing these "squares" images, which capture something of that old school pixel-art feel.

Small Worlds:
http://jayisgames.com/cgdc6/?gameID=9

The Majesty of Colors:
http://www.kongregate.com/games/GregoryWeir/the-majesty-of-colors/

The Forbidden Forrest games of the early 80s capture even more of that frenzied nature we're seeing in the images above:

It is really interesting to see different interpretations of the square, good work guys. Smile

I made this one earlier this week for my site, just realized that the square theme has been rooted deeper in me than I thought.
Hilarious how that works, the subconscience playing a trick on you.
This a more abstract one:

Hello all, I've been lurking and checking those amazing forums since forever, but for some reason always felt I'm somewhat not up to the challenge of posting here and keeping up with all the amazing work being posted. Anyway, I've been checking the boards lately more often and couldn't resist any longer!
Wink All the squary awesomeness sparth started I thing was the tipping point for me. So here's one from me!

And thanks sparth for being there breaking new grounds as always, and you guys for the inspiration!

Btw guys I was gonna post a youtube video before but didn't get around to it, better do it now before the end of the month. Wink
I think this is the ultimate what you can do with cubes and shows to me that spot motion animation still is very interesting and useful.
Just look at the awesomeness with the lit up cubes and such, pretty neat if you ask me:

I really liked this activity btw, it's probably much better to do something namely, in general than to focus on something so narrow that it is difficult to portray it.
Good job Sumaleth and Sparth. Very Happy
