Gah! Your post is giving me a headache!!!!!!!!!! You use so many exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!! :P
The obvious suggestion would be to make a new boot disk.. |

Ahh, it's the actual drive?
What OS are you running? Can you make a boot CD?
And.. do you have any idea why your floppy isn't working? Did it work in Windows? If it did, you just need to change an option in your BIOS to make sure it checks it at startup.. |

That sucks!
Well, the worst case scenerio would be to physically take your HD out and extract the content with another computer IF you can't get into your computer at all with all the booting methods. Of course, that's the last resort. . ..
In my case, I got in there through DOS and moved some important files to another partition, and then reformatted the sucker and reinstalled Win2000. I lost a great 3D model that way though, so I didn't come out of the incident unscathed. |

i've had my hd stop working a few days ago, it said it wasn't formatted! turns out the bootsector got overwritten when i was doing a reset while a program was saving something, so a friend of mine just copied the backup boot sector tho the old location with a disk editor, and it worked. i had invested a day of scandisking before that though |

@Tree Merchant im running winme. i tried two different floppy drives from my spare parts archive and played in the bios. it seems to be something serious. i tried to make a boot cd, but it didnt work, cos i think i dont really know how. need to look into that.
@Coaster ive only got those recovery cd's and im afraid those might format the hd before i get anything outta it
@Lunatique i tried extracting to a different comp, but files didnt show up, is it because its a different file system or something? im pretty sure the data is still there. i need a way to get into dos, once im here ill teach the bugger for messing with me
@wayfinder sounds helpful, have you got any more info on that.
well. the plan now is to get win 98 installed on a small 600 megs hd ive got (need to find someone with a working copy now). then burn the files to cd and pour petrol over my comp and send it to hell!!!! i dont care what happens to it as long as i get my files back

a little update. i managed to make a bootable cd. it loads dos, but thats it. it only boots dos, and itr does not recognise any other drive. it says drive a, althou its a cdrom. its the only drive there.
i tried accessing c or anything. nothing is working i tried all possible drive letters.
ps. some good news. i have one model that i managed to salvage, and that was the one i invested most time in. |

Does the machine even recognize you have a HD installed as it goes through the bootup routine (You may have to turn off an option in BIOS that hides the bootup proceedure in order to see)? When you go into BIOS check and make sure it is using the right settings for you HD, or try running autodetect again. I once had a faulty CMOS that made me have to fix my HD settings every week or so because it would randomly 'forget'.
If you haven't already, unplug and reconnect the cables to the drive. Or switch the cable with a cable that you know for sure works.
When all else fails, smack the side of the monitor while cursing. |

When you turn on your computer what happens? Does it even turn on? Do you get normal "warm-up" or is it just black? Does your computer beep?
Fill me in, I might be able to help. |
