It's not bad I like it. I rather give some tips.
Some things that comes to my mind, maybe make the wires thinner and add a person somewhere, or something that could suggest scale to the objects in the background. I like the atmosphere. |

hey rockstar30!
I was thinking about starting an overpaint thread, but in the meantime, and if you dontmind, heres a few things I think could help make your image stronger. Im no expert but here you go I hope you dont take this the wrong way.
Try to avoid tangents, youll create a better sense of depth if you do.
and a quick overpaint
think about values
this is your painting in B&W
Ill post the link, for some reason I cant embed it http://germancasado.com/overpaint/001_values_B&W.jpg
can you see how you could push it further?
There are many options and many choices to make when painting. Try tackling one problem at a time (perspective/values/color etc). I find it many times overwhelming to worry about color, values, atmosphere, anatomy all at once!
this is a quick greyscale version. One possibility
When you create a layer, if you press ctrl+alt+G it will only affect the layer below. That comes in handy when you want to keep a silhouette. You could have your shapes in a flat color in one layer, and then the light/shadow on another on top. or you could have it all in one layer with a mask.
Hope this makes some sense! |

HI Banano and Quintus,
Thanks so much for your suggestions... I have never come across the tangent theory I just looked it up now. Wow... something i will definitely avoid
My first picture looks actually bland when made into black and white... and also has scale issues . I have tried to fix them and make the image much more dynamic.

ok I made an overpaint aswell guess I got inspired by banano there, seems you rockstar want some tips aswell which makes it more appreciative if one is gonna do an overpaint.
Btw banano I hope you will start that overpaint thread, awesome idea.
I really don't like the concept of critique these days because there are so many directions to take an artwork and it is always up to the artist where it should be taken. So I am gonna tread softly here, hopefully.
Some things that you wanna be careful of though, is repetitive spikes like those that you have in the mountain rocks. ...those consumes attention, especially when repeated, makes the eye focus at those parts. I can mark them in a separate picture if you want?
The other one is saturation, rather start low key and then add colors in layers. That way you have control on the key colors, usually there's one or two vibrant colors in your painting if you wanna get depth.
Color theory rules applied you should go from cold in the back up to warm colors in the front, this you have in your original sketch.
If you look at old paintings you can see that they go from cold sky in the back then warmer ground up in the front, that is a good rule for depth.
ok back to the overpaint, I changed the concept and not on purpose lol, guess I am a bad overpainter. Just wanted to show another angle perhaps.
However it all depends on how and what you wanna display in your picture. Personally I prefer perspective in a painting, that way you can add more to the surrounding, and; atmosphere is probably the most important ingredient in a painting, if you can master that you gonna make masterpieces everytime.

Awww... so sweet of you do an overpaint... and that too a totally new concept ... wow... you re good
Yeah I am planning to do aways with those rocks in the foreground... they do look really deliberate now rather than natural...
I will also be making the windows a bit thinner as right now it looks really thick... I would like to know.
Where exactly this picture goes wrong... concept wise, composition and perspective, color? I want to fix this one so that i can put it in my portfolio
Looking at your concept I feel I am far far away in terms of good concept sketching
btw all comments are appreciated and taken into account not just overpaints |

Wow I think you are coming along real fine now, gets better and better, I like that you added the hills in the background, sure gives you depth.
If you ask me where you loose depth at this moment is the perspective, incorporate more things to get a perspective, give the picture flow with a path.
Foregrounds focus usually works for me, it could be small things like a pillar, people or other objects, this give you the feel that there is something behind it.
Keep in mind to give depth early with tonal values in your sketching, three tones suffice in the initial stage. To break things down.
Abou the structure of the towers, not clear to the viewer if they are metal or metal and rock. As they have the same color at the foundation and on top structure..... Some tips would be to make them differ or perhaps some eiffel tower structure.
I made some overpaints again, quick ones so they are not that good lol. Added more perspective, however if the toweres were to be very tall I suggest a perspective where you look up on the towers, this in the second overpaint. Ellipses bend the other way.
Hmm damn my english is bad. haha Find a happy place, wth?
ok gotta go
