I wanted to use "Writer's block" but it doesn't fit with visual artists...
I'm just curious to see how you come up with ideas during a "dry spell". |

I go actively hunting for inspiration. Or I do what someone told me in high school, "If you don't know what to draw, draw naked ladies".
Much to the dismay of my wife. |

same here shizo. i've been going through that and it's not fun.
but what i find helps is to get out of the house (i really have a hard time doing art there) and go somewhere else and try to draw. sometimes a differnt environment can help. at least for me anyway. |

I know how you feel...in a writer's/artist's block (AGH! BOTH!! NOOOOO!!!) If you've got an unfinished work somewhere, you could try to finish it, if not...
Hm...good advice. Maybe I'll go take it now... |

Well the number one thing I do is more like a preventive measure.
I keep a record of my idea's. Things that inspire me. Things that I want to investigate. It's basically a journal with (theoretically) everything art related.
This is great because you will have something to fall back on. But you will also discover general themes in your work and be able to develope them more.
It's a great motivating factor. It's also very fun to have these books to look through with rough sketches and idea's and stuff. I also compare them with friends and discuss idea's. Very fun and very usefull.
I used to carry the book with me at all times but I have kind of taught myself to store everything untill I have time to put it on paper.
Having a book like that at your Artschool interviews (dutch ones at least)is a great plus too. And you are obliged to keep one once you are in there. |

Best way to deal with Artists Block....
let it get bad enough that your boss threatens to Fire you.... that should clear it up in a hurry.
(not that I know from experience or anything........) |
