snootchy-yes! linran posted in this thread a while ago (must've actually been a long time, like a year or something) its what got me to start using it. Actually this painting i used both, cause if you want to get color variation the rgb is best, the hsb just gives you a whole rainbow to choose from and is like "here ya go" and you have to figure out saturation (kinda hard for me), but as far as transitional planes go where you need to mix increments of a similar color, but the value needs to slightly change, hsb is better cause with rgb you gotta adjust all the sliders for value and that is hassling enough that i would go lazy and just start picking off of the piece or blending. Basically rgb is better for color variation but hsb makes value design a bit easier. You can use cmyk or lab though if you want a real headache lol...I see the script link too thanks for that!

SANSAN-these sillouhette ships are so nice, gives me the mood!

ZUPZUP- love that orange and gray of the trees!

did a sketch and a 3 hr mess ...I think alot of the abstract interest is in how the big sillouhette of a form interacts with whats around it, and the inner planes determine what it 'is' in alot of ways. I had trouble earlier and noticed that the sill was weak somehow, I think alot of times I have been (or tried to be) descriptive with the "inner" planes but the big design flopped-time to really think about both...where they stick out and where they disappear. I believe the second one became boring though cause it sticks out all the way around, perhaps if it got blurry towards the back edge to show motion things would be more exciting

just read on gurneyjourney about how the story should drive the design, I need to focus on that! I notice that when doing thumbnails I've gotten thinking that way, but when just jumping on a picture and trying to make it "finished" there is just too much to think about visually that it pushes it out. More thumbnails with that sort of thought will be interesting, lets the picture have narrative significance. Ian Mcaig was all about story I recall...

I did read discussion about using colorpicker. I usually use HSB sliders but it was replaced by Magic Picker from Anastasiy http://anastasiy.com/colorwheel recently. Awesome tool! it makes my life much easier!! I remember that I loved that feature in Painter. Now I can have this in PS.

Here's mine from this evening, not really a speedy but close enough. Been painting too much straight angles and hard surfaces lately, it was hard to get back to "soft forms". Ref used (Anouk Aimee - 1964).

I love the book "Spark" which I got a week ago. Those artists from Steambot are crazy! I learned some things as well. I noticed that when I see image on laptop, I find a lot of faults of my paintings when I dont find on big screen. Seems that crappy laptop screen is good judge for me.




samhell, hehe yes. You have sharp eye, i tried to do him a bit different but I guess I have to paint worse haha.

snootchy, hm I did not notice when I work with smaller pieces, I think I rather have problem with big files on old computer with little ram. What kind of computer you have? I checked your page, wow huge improvement since 2007. Your tutorials look very interesting, I'll check them later.
