Interesting. Why are you moving? I don't see what kind of advice you're looking for though hehe.
Besides the money part. |

Dr.Bang - What else can you reccomend? I understand the "lots of money part" Which is why I'm working more than one job now and selling a lot of my things that I won't need to have shipped over.(as well as my car)
But, what about the length of time allowed for residence - Until you have to become a citizen? Or is that even an issue? Because I'll have a job there.
After a year I'll be starting schooling, so I know about the limitations for work there while schooling, but what about the length of time for residence?
And..the costs for things there.
Prejudice against americans?
Certain "street-knowledge"?
Anything else perhaps?
Thanks |

Don't smoke too much weed! (I'm serious!)
Prejudice against americans?
Only if you behave badly - like running around, threatening people with "we'll bomb your sorry asses back into stoneage" just because they don't respect your claims of american superiority.
Or saying "that food is crap" when offered something else that doesn't fit in your culinaric cookiecutter minimalist palette consiting of pizza, poorly adopted italian food, hamburgers and steak.
Or statements like "what do you know - you're getting all your culture from us ...", "One time on Saturday Night Live ..." or " ours is waaaayyy better" ...
I'm sure you won't do this and behave like a citizen of this world, which we all are.
But these examples are all taken from one guy in my current vincinity that's driving me crazy. And he's never been anywhere before (which he refuses to admit - Mexico, Canada and a week in Jamaica should be enough of the world to see)and claims that being in the US is enough because it's so big anyway ...
Sorry - don't wanna start a flamewar. But this has been driving me nuts for the past weeks.
I'm sure you'll behave nicely and you'll see that people will be nice to you too. Just remember, you're an ambassador for your country - as am I for mine. Good luck and have a grand time. Dutch girls are soooperhot btw ...
[one last oen: we were walking by a photograph of the Matterhorn (very distinct looking mountain in the swiss alps) and I asked - "Do you know that mountain?" - Him " EVEREST! Hmmm - no! FIDJI!" ... |

Oh and don't tell anyone that you are american because the dutch hate right wing christian bigottist fascist consumerist populist racist stupidists cause oooow we are sooooooooehw progressive!!!
If you want to know anything more concrete just email me. I am the dutch info whore.

It's a great country(The Netherlands) and very bicycle friendly(at least those 10 times I have been there.) Personally I find Rotterdam more interesting than Amsterdam though. Rotterdam has more character and is some what friendlier in my opinion. I don't know anything about the politics so I can't comment on that, but I guess politics are as crazy and stupid as everwhere else.
But believe me, you'll enjoy the place, at least I have. |
