I noticed from Sparth's blog http://sparthconstruct.blogspot.com/, that he's using Nintendo DS and application called COLOR for sketching. Does anyone know if there are better portable digital sketchpads available, or do I have to buy Nintendo for doing digital drawings outdoors. And I would also appreciate better resolution than Nintendo's. Thanks. |

A Tablet PC would do the trick, probably, although they're not perfect. Searching the forums here for that should provide some more info. Also a lot more expensive than a DS... |

Search terms:
- Modbook
- Fujitsu/Toshiba Tablet PC
- Wacom Cintiq
There are no other ways as far as I know. Except the usual laptop+Wacom combo. _________________ CA SB|Flickr |

The DS's Colors app is great.
The resolution and size of the screen are minor drawbacks, otherwise it's a pretty kick-ass solution. |

After reading this and a few other posts on Colors!, I went and got a card for my DS (Yes it works on a DS lite)
The program is awesome. I've been sketching every day with it. For me it would be enough to justify getting a DS just to sketch with.
Full color pallette, pressure sensitivity, multiple zoom levels. Perfect for speedpaints. You can then take the files and play them back with the Java app. (Check the gallery page) With the Java program, you can even play them back to a higher resolution file!
Check the gallery page. You can download the .drw files and see it work, even if you don't have a DS |

I'm waiting for mine to arrive, looks like a great tool! Here are quite a few pictures, there's also a java app at this page that you can download to watch the playbacks on a computer

Thanks for the setup tutorial Jabo!
That is what made up my mind to buy a DS Lite - Onyx.
My R4 and micro SD are on the way.
Seems that you dont need the WiFi/email trick to get larger images. Just download ColorsDraw_1_0.jar, double click it and it runs as an application. Then just copy the .drw file using the MicroSD.
Wifi/email is easier but that will just cost me another $35 for the WiFi-USB. Although I was thinking of buying one anyway since they dont make them anymore. |

I have the R4 as well, but unfortunately i've got the old brick-like DS, with a crappy screen
but nevertheless, it's really cool to paint digitally(!!) while you travel |

with the new ipod itouch out, I wonder if a similar program will be coming out for it. Has alot of potential with its gesture touches and the fact that it can detect 2 touches at a time. only question is does it have pressure sensitivity, which is probly the most important feature in this case. |

The iPod Touch is not precise enough and has no pressure sensivity.
there are a sketch programm, but the best result i've ever get with that was an ugly smiley monocolor.
beside that, the touch cost 100 bucks more. _________________ *

A UMPC would be great for this kind of thing (although more expensive). _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

my friend has a sketching app on his ipod touch but it is basically like MS Paint, you can do lines and shapes but that's about it.
Haven't seen the DS one in person but it does seem really neat. |
