Agreed, Deck16 concept is astounding, gave a nice new touch to the map. But first one is my favourite for the sheer vastness and cool sci-fi-industrial theme!

YOU ROCK! Very Happy

Holy moly. That's some killer work. Awesome, truly awesome!
Your use of light and color is inspiring, I wonder how you can handle so much detail.
Very complex structures expecially in the 2nd pic.
Do you have prerendered blockmodelings to know where the light comes from etc? I'd like to know more about the progress and I am sure others too Very Happy
Anyway, much respect! Getting into this industiry is becoming harder and harder because guys like you are pushing the quality so high ;D

keep it up!!

Thanks for the nice words everyone!

Vahn: It can take from 2-5 days to paint an image like this, it all depends, some views are more difficult than others, and some days I'm just lucky Razz

Notic: haha that's great! omg it was pretty nice to be in the paper, people pop up and say "hey aren't you that guy who paints" its great Razz

3nasty, yes 3D wireframe lines was used for the Deck shot and partly for the top image too. I'll see if I can dig up the images so yuo can see what I started with!

Daryl: I am going to see if I can find some early wips, I do save wips sometimes and when im finished they make a funny little animation Razz

Max: the 3D wireframes are just used for perspective, I've tried to do some lighting in 3D but it really confuses me and ruins it for me, I think I need to spend more time on lighting, but that would make me waste more time than just painting it. Smile

Awesome stuff as always, captain. the second one has so much detail and the perspective is fantastic. I had a little trouble understanding what was going on in the forth one, but i like the design of the squid thing. I bet you are doing some secret work for the Gears of War sequel? Wink thanks for sharing!

Great work John!

I've found that a simple omni-lit scene with some radiosity can be a useful starting point but you can't rely on that lighting too much. Like you said, it would be a waste of time to try and get the lights spot on in the 3d base.
