That's indeed pretty cool. Altough I am not sure if I would use it. The explorer system still seems very clear and easy to use. Furthermore my desctop is always empty anyway ; )
Fun thing to play around with tho. |

Just after getting leopard, I was inspired to design a better UI, and I thought of something a lot like this - no windows, just a large desktop area for all current projects and documents, like a real desk. And like real organisation, the usual hierarchical filing-system would be used only for storage of items and projects completed. Working out of a filling-system is tiresome, much easier to work from your desk.
I do not think multiple floating windows are good usability. And the desktop is the space that all new computer users feel most comfortable with, because it is always there, and the files on it smack of reality more that ones you can access via the multiple windows through which you peer into your file structure. I believe in a 2d interface too, I'm not convinced that 3d increases usability or clarity, I think it's just providing another dimensions for items to get lost or obscured in.
They say here that elements of realism help usability, but clearly there are elements of it that do not. I wonder how much this gains for its realism. Folding a corner on a real page is done because it is one of most convenient things you can mechanically do to a page, not because it is one of the most effective ways of identifying documents. And ignoring both of those points that to offer simulated folding of paper through some contracted interactions seems to be a little misguided and defeats the object entirely. The project is as large as I thought at first though being that it only explores the matter of organisation of a small number of files and folders.
Very interesting!
Thanks for the link. |

I think they should combine 2d and 3d. I dont think it will help me to have a mountain of 300 Music Files or else to look through. I think it would be useful to have something like the normal desktop, and with a klick of a mousebutton (thumb e.g.) the items would transform from 2d to 3d. would be a good way of selling multiple button mouses I still only use 3 including the wheel. But i also think there needs to be some kinda revolution for windows input. Wii is just a very little step, but in the right way in my opinion. I want hand motion tracking with realtime reaction onscreen then i could also live with bumptop. But klicking everything is still like...well dont know....too technical _________________ quit pro quo |
