If I hear one more of those lil 1980 spuds say that they feel 'old' I'm gonna mailbomb the crap out of them.
Now this here is the senior citizen corner!
When I was born people were still flying to the moon, the Vietnam war was still going and TV's in Austria were nearly all black&white.
There were no homecomputers, heck - pocket calculators weren't really availiable back then.
Probably around 1980:
Does anyone remember when digital watches became the latest fashion? The ones that played little melodies and drove teachers and parents around the globe crazy?
Or Tric-O-Tronics???
eeeek! |

Does 1972 count?
Man, disco sure was hot, eh?
Remember in the mid-80's all the kids/teens rolled up their pants/jeans realy tight around the ankle? Or was it a California thing? |

If you need your butt to get played, I'm shure neither one of us wants to hear anymore.

Shizo, 1/3 of your life is over at the age of 19? Wow, err, can I ask where you live if you have that kind of life expectancy...?

Nah, that was a Texas thing too.
I watched a shitload of TV in the 70's and 80's.
A-team, Miami Vice, Transformers, Conjunction Junction, Dallas, MTV, Knight Rider, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century(Erin Gray was just smokin'), Dr. Who, and god knows what else.
Rap, breakdancing, Feathered hair, ugly ass cars, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Air Jordans. Whee!

Flat: looking at you - you don't need to be a tree to have your ass stick to the ground ...
--
The rolling up the pants thing must have been an american phenomenon ...
In Austria in the mid 80s there were two groups: the more gothy kinda people and the guys that only wore name brand clothing ...
Don't ask me to which one I belonged, heee
Still remember my first encounter with a Philips G7000 game console ... talk about graphics performance ... hahaha
or when the Walkman(tm) became popular ...

Loki...
I'm turning 30 in less than 2 weeks. It's freaking the shit out of me, considering the little I've accomplished, the little I've gained, .. the little I've become.
Nearly abandonned portions of my brain vaguely still remember my parent making me wear plad and corduroy pants, and having long untamed haircuts cut harshly at mid-neck lengths. That tacky furniture and 'cool lamps', and that 'Village People' music my parents and relatives would listen to at parties, my dad's 8-track cassette player in the car, and plenty of other things that just make me smile in retrospect. In those days, Ozzy was the singer of Black Sabbath, and they so damn ruled... yeah, I suppose there were some good times.
At least I had hopes, goals and dreams back then, and was vividly looking forward to being a better off man than I am now at my age. The thing that bites, is that I don't even beleive in the afterlife or reincarnation. I'm a lousy player.
Thanks for listening.

Hey does it count if my wife was born in 1970? I am bewildered at just turning 38 (1964). But I am relieved when i hear my daughter yell, " Dad! can you turn that music down!" Hopefully haven't lost too much of my hearing
Still struggling to make something of the ol art career, now though its certainly more a labor of love than it was when I was in the 20 somethings. Perhaps I am getting old, I observe my breathing while enjoying the full motion of a brush stroke gliding across the virtual canvas, I am actually interested in the directions my brush strokes go and how they overlap. Not so concerned how long it takes to complete a piece anymore (unless there is a deadline, then maybe). And rambling is so natural now.......hmmmmm maybe I should stop talking (typing) now.
Loki, love the new frontpage illo!

Oi is also used extensively in Yiddish (Jewish), if I'm not mistaken. :P |

Explain it further.
Ozzy refers to the rocker Ozzy, and the Oi refers to the old punk rude greeting? How'd they mix together? |

"Oi" was originally not so much a punk rock/skinhead thing as simply a lower-class British (and Australian, presumably) variation of "hey". It worked its way into punk rock because the punk rockers were lower-class British people. The first known appearance of "oi" in a punk song was on the Clash's first album, in 1977, I believe in the song "White Riot", but I could be wrong. From then on, shouts of "oi! oi! oi!" became fairly common in punk rock, and soon after, a subgenre of punk favored by skinheads and heavily influenced by football (soccer) chants, known simply as "oi!" sprang up. Sham 69, Cockney Rejects, the 4-Skins, Angelic Upstarts, The Last Resort, Peter & the Test Tube Babies and the Business are a few examples of Oi! bands.
More than you ever wanted to know, huh? |

I was born 12th July, 1971 ...
In 1979 or '80 my dad bought me one of the first Walkmans when he was in Japan.
I was the coolest kid in school. Since norwegians are such socialist extremists, my teacher told me that I couldn't bring it with me to school anymore, because it was not fair to the other kids.
My dad also got himself a digital wristwatch around the same time, also from Japan, that had a face that was completely black tinted glass, when you pressed a button on the side the time lit up in bright red and stayed lit for a few seconds ... It was the coolest thing I had ever seen ...
Then there was the BetaMax videoplayer thing ... and a choice of BetaMax and "regular VHS" in the video stores ...
And the first Alien movie in '79 or was that '80 ... since I was only a little shit, I wasn't actually allowed to see it, but I crawled unnoticed past my parents, and into cover under the sofa, and watched the whole thing from there, not making a sound. I tried to escape unnoticed too, but that went rather badly ... I had nightmares about Aliens ripping my brains out for weeks after that ... heheh ...
Since computers have been a big part of my life, about two thirds of it to be precise, I'd like to mention some of that shit here too.
The ABC80 from Luxor was the first machine I "had access to" and the first machine I made computer graphics with. A whopping Zilog Z80A 1MHz processor. There were no programs for making graphics of course, so I had to program which dots went where by programming in a type of Basic. I remember I made a full screen image of Garfields face, represented by the white square dots 10x10 pixels or so, that was the graphics on this baby. The creations could be saved on a cassette deck that sounded similar to regular analogue modems while reading and saving.
The Sinclair ZX81, my first very own computer, it had a 3.25MHz CPU and a 16K RAM add-on for those REALLY huge programs of more than 200 lines of code ... heheh ... it hooked up to the TV set, and you had to enter the code for the programs you wanted to use manually, there were no disks for storing things. I bought a telephone-book sized book with program code for various games that I meticulously keyed in. And when the power was switched off, the code went out too, unless you had the cassette storage device, which for some reason I didn't. Not the best solution ... heheh ... Because of this machine I still hate programming to this day ...
The original IBM PC ... With Games such as Frogger, Adventure (text based classic), and the first Flight Simulator 1.0 from Microsoft. All displayed in luscious shades of green monochrome. "I was Ze best 12 year old Red Baron killer evar ..."
The first Compaq Portable also called "Luggable" because of its weight, introduced in 1983, it was about the size of a mid sized tower nowadays, and heavy as shit. Probably because of the green monochrome screen.
For some reason my dad had one of the first batch of only 300.
The out of this world 1984 ACT Apricot Portable, 20 years ahead of its time, with cool black plastic casing, an LCD screen, gorgeous black chordless infrared keyboard and trackball, and a voice recognition system my dad helped develop ... I think ... he's a Language Engineer and he brought a bunch of ACT Apricot prototypes home ... I wonder why I never asked him about that shit ... he's nearly 70 now, I gotta go talk to him ... about everything ... damn ... time flies faster and faster ...
Hmmm ... my my my ... that was a lot of crap ... I'm such a nerd ... there's so much more, but I'll save it for my Biography when I'm 70 ... heheh ...
