First Audiogalaxy is gone, and now they put my favorite internet radiosite, SomaFM, out of commision. In order to play Internet Radio now, you have to pay $500 a DAY to them? Arg. It is sad, their argument is that this all hurts cd sales, but in reality allows people such as myself to discover new artists so we can buy their stuff! This is so sad.
Sorry for ranting. |

Government rules everything. We think we live in democracy, but we really don't. When it all comes down to it, we don't have any power over anything. We elect our heads of state, but after that, we're fucked.
I despise the RIAA especially. Album sales have continued to grow even through the Napster/MP3 era and beyond. I really can't find much sense to it at all. |

im beginning to wonder if were the first and last generation of internet users who can truly enjoy downloading 'free' stuff that you usually need to pay for .... you know with internet charges increasing and new strict internet rules popping up like no ones business.
here in singapore there are certain sites that you cannot access, playboy.com is one of them. (most of these sites are porn sites, and some sites are warez sites)
and thanks to the government more sites are being banned ...
wasnt there a guy who said something a long time ago about the net being the only place that we can be really free ?
i cant recall. |

I agree that the RIAA is a bunch of jackasses, but they have no way of "killing" Internet radio because they don't represent all musicians and all record labels. In fact they don't even represent most record lables.
While the pop music industry implodes on itself, you'll have the opportunity to be exposed to all kinds of stuff you never would've heard otherwise.
Most of the music the average person in the developed world has heard has been on one of FIVE record labels. Think about that for a second.
Ask yourself if you even want to listen to musicians who are willing to align themselves with that cancer . . . |

Exactly what freedom has been revoked, Coaster? The freedom of enterprise?
Sure, record companies are greedy. Music is a business, just like any other trade.
Complaining about the RIAA restricting online music is equivalent to complaining about how warez sites are illegal. You are stealing if you willfully download a commercial product for free, with no permission.

It's all a conspiracy! Since 9/11 the government will do anything to protect commercial revenue producing companies that are saying "boo-hoo, we can't make any money because [insert excuse here]." The govenment believes that these companies making money is more important than people listening to music for free on the internet and appreciating it as "art" and not as a "product."
It all boils down to how our economic system is set up and how it's based on selling things to other people and making money off of it, which then filters down to the average joe citizen who has to deal with the presence of big companies trying to make/brainwash them to spend spend SPEND!
[edit]of course, it could just be me developing paranoid schizophrenia of "big companies" but either way, it's pretty stupid...[/edit]
