Well, it's been about 5 years or so I've been sifting through these forums, and on this overcast afternoon I've finally decided to come and join you all. I'm up to my neck in work at the moment so like many I have little time for personal work, but none the less I shall start with a piece I did last year in Artrage of all things...I still have to find the time and the money to spend on a decent machine to delve into Painter Smile

Comments and critique are very welcome, look forward to meeting you all...

All The Finest

HD

Yeah it's very pleasing.
Hehe there's a lot of subtle expressions going on in the face. Tired, cool, curious and arrogant depending where you look... if u have a bit vivid imagination... oerr *hides*.
Anyway I think that's awesome. Love the painterly feel too and the colors.

Thankyou very much Smile It's a right old pain to use that program, but it was free so worth a shot to anyone interested!

Just need to bury myself in Painter now Smile

Hmmm,

not sure about this one, it feels too painted and the strokes don't feel at all natural. Your choice of colour is bad as it blends too much with the background. I would suggest that you have more hue between animal and backdrop.

I have been painting digitally for many years now, I have always found that listening to honest opinions really helps to clear the right path to becoming a 'better' painter.

The perspective is also slightly off. What are you using as a base prior to painting?

Mike

I think the 'too painted' feel comes from the fact you have no options in the program I used...it's very basic...'Here's your oil brush, away you go!'

The background colour I actually chose on purpose as I liked the idea of simply blending the animal with his surroundings....as if it was a sandstorm...It was basically what was in my head before I painted it...

As for perspective I can only assume you mean perhaps the relationship between the neck and the head, but all the same the subject matter generally sits on a very similar plane anyway...

The base to this was just a very quick sketch from life...

Thankyou for your critique Smile

I'm sorry if I came over a little harsh I did not mean to offend you, which I have obviously done, so I am sorry.

I have used Painter many times and I do see your point but it seems to me that you don't want to accept critique and that you are easily annoyed. I was merely offering a different point of view, 'bad' points as opposed to good, which you have been receiving.

I would be interested to see some more of your work and offer advise as to how I can help you more forward!

Kind Regards,

Mike

beautiful. Very warm hearted picture. And it's not all the subject versus the background. Only thing that matters is what the creator wanted to say with the painting.

For spicymike: Don't paint. Don't try to get better painter. Let it flow from your heart. It's not defining to maximum and killing the paintings with overly readable subjects.

Paint with real medium. Digital can never achieve the joy and relaxation of analogue medium. It is the best way to learn.

I agree and think i am sorry!

I used to paint quite a bit when I was younger, my parents and I moved back from Bangladesh four years ago to start a shop business in East London. I quite often feel that my business is taking over my desire to paint. I remember I used to watch the sun setting and would think about how lucky I was to have such beautiful compositions around me with which to paint. Sameir, my sister, is also a great painter, a really traditional oil and water colour painter. She once painted a lamb, it was fantastic..and its what got me inspired. Now I live here and don't have the same feelings as before. I would like to exhibit some of my paintings on this forum and get some responses, my work has passion and better still 'traditional value' its all very well being ale to paint a spaceship or goblin but is quite different to be able to live in the moment and release the bowels of creativity, to put it bluntly! Nama shumi, and take this with you. Don't hold it against me but it is what I am. I still feel Devo needs some guidence!
