This one started out as sketch practice, but slowly developed into a more finished painting. The final look should resemble something more comic-like than realistic. The idea behind was to have a girl almost coming to life on a wet poster. It is not entirely obvious, but if you look closer the waterdrops, although running down a flat surface, they seem follow the girl's curvaceous body. I'm still fighting against anatomy (and probably will forever), but it is always a lot of fun to do these kind of paintings.

Hey andreas, thought I'd drop you a line. I like the painting overall (I always like girl paintings ), although something kinda destroys those solid parts. Don't know if you want crits as this is the Finished Work section, but I like the overall feel of the picture. So here are some pointers, in no particular order, just what I noticed.
- The head is way to small compared to her body. I'd also rotate it so she doesn't look straight out of the picture. Instead, a more tempting expression like this one would add an erotic aspect that isn't there yet.
- Foreshortening on her left arm (from our point of view) is off, it looks shorter where it should instead retreat backwards more obviously.
- Nice navel!
- Her upper body (read boobs) seems to be rotated slightly to our left, but her pelvis is rotated to the right. That just doesn't fit.
- Left thigh (from our point) is bigger than the right one. I don't know which one is actually correct (I don't understand pelvis areas even with a gun pointed at my sleeve).
- Her head looks a little manly. I don't know. It would possibly work better if you emphasized the cheekbones more and raised her hairline.
- Her lips look cool. Really like them.
- Hand on our left is cool, right one is a little rough.
- Her boobs are... huge. I don't know, maybe it's just personal preference, but I feel sorry for her because she probably has some serious shoulder pain.
The waterdrops: I like the idea. But actually, I think it rather looks like glue. The contrast should be way higher as waterdrops reflect a picture of the environment with much more light and shadow involved (click!). I just think you've put too many different values into the drops, where they should instead just be made of one dark and one light. Also, it should stand out from the background by a dropshadow or sorts.
Ok again, hope you don't mind me giving crit. Reads rather long now, but it mainly focuses on some major issues. _________________ CA SB|Flickr |

Jabo...wonderful crit. I really appreciate it. I really would like to correct all of those aspects, but I think I should pause a bit longer.
Thanks very much, really!
EDIT
I changed it considering your thoughts. How about this one?

hi,
just wanted to give my 2 cents to the nice picture though I dont consider myself as an (good) artist:
Speaking personally I like the first version a lot more. Apart from the anatomy of the body of the figure, which has really improved in my point of view there are some things I liked better before:
1) In the younger version the outline of the woman was softer giving her a more natural look
2) the big black border of the new one distracts my eyes too much.
3) wether the look of the "wet" (I agree with Jabo about the similarity with glue) was perfect in the 1st version or not, the raindrops in the newer look a bit kitschy (childly?) to me. I liked the other effect much more.
4) The lightning of her left arm (the right one on the picture) looked more natural in the 1st version
5) Last but not least the old hairstyle looked prettier to me
I dont want to crit Jabo, but perhaps youll be interested in the fact that people see the pictures different.
ok,bye! |
