Whoa...the last page kicks ass! Where the hell did this great stuff come from?
Samsonreaper - the one on the top is really fantastic!
Ranath - great atmosphere!
Celvec - gotta love those brushstrokes
P-Rik - back to the basics...really good
Simon Gustafsson - great piece
Naglfar - some of the best work I have seen...you really outdid yourself! reminds me of some of George Hull's concepts for the Matrix
Capt. Fred - cool
Did this one based on some WWII footage.

Lot's of inspiring stuff in this thread as usual!
A weekend trip to Cadaques. A speedie with acrylics painted the view towards the sea, from infront of my favorite painter's Salvador Dali's house.
P-rik: Nice acrylic stuff!

Samsonreaper, great images. The process was interesting. I like the translucent quality of the first one on the last page.
Curious...how do you feel the paintings translate once printed.
Are you (anyone working digitally) dissapointed with the result, at least initially?

Yeah, of course. Printing digital images is tough. first you have to deal with the fact that the monitor is backlit, and your paper is not. second, you have to deal with a color gamut that is very large in photoshop; much more than your printer can produce. If all that weren't enough, you have to calibrate the hell out of your printer just to get it to look similar. With enough time and money, you can get decent results though.
There are a lot of threads on this if you use the search function and I think you'll find consistent frustration with print problems. let us know if you find the secret though
Nice painting btw Chad! |

Thanks a lot for the kind words guys and for those of you who are interested then I did use a 3d base for those last ones. They are a part of concepts for an environment Im working on and I decided to throw up some simple boxes and shapes to keep the whole thing (sortof) consistent when painting different vantage points. I tend to move things around and change shapes too much on the fly just to make the composition more pretty, it really is a nightmare for the 3d modeleres to have a few concept images of the same thing and the elements in them are never in the same place.
Thank you very much Ben, I took out my old gouache paint again because of those
Great work everyone, the talent here never ceases to amaze me.

Thankz, Octavian.
I've been able to coax a fair amount of success by simply amping up the brightness, but that sparkle always seems to slightly dull or vanish. Do you have any insight as to how is it done professionally for digital images set for print? There seems to be a respectable amount of consistancy in the translation when the work is featured in print (ie. Vile's paintings featured in ImagineFX)
Maybe i should take this to another thread, eh? You guys will beat me up.
Screen shot speedie from the latest King Kong.

using the color profile that the printer is calibrated to helps a lot. Still I sometimes have to tweak some of my dark areas to make it look right (because of the backlight issue). And just printing a lot of versions with different adjustments help a lot. |
