Chad, that's probably because you have a color profile assigned to your pictures. Go to "Edit" -> "Color Settings" in Photoshop to change your RGB color profile to sRGB, or better, don't assign a profile at all (deactivate the RGB profiles). You can also do this by "Image" -> "Mode" (or "Adjustments, dunno) and say "convert to profile". Then, select "no profile" or whatver.

playing with photoshop again. I can't settle with what style I like most. Painter's painterly style is great, but I find it quite hard to texture stuff even with customized brushes, or just fill areas suggesting something without actually paint any details.

Photoshop's texture brushes I adore, yet the stuff I do with it feels a lot more "soul-less" and cold. I feel that with a few other PS work as well, even when the brushes isn't all that obvious. Maybe because I can't make out the "maker" of the painting, when it's the brushes that does most of the rendering?

Flask.........

Here's a diff. version of the landscape you poster earlier....

My first tip would be to spend plenty of time studying nature and use as much reference as possible until you understand what it is that you're seeing and become familiar with different elements that are involved in the definition of landscape forms. Conveying atmospheric perspective is crucial and it will drive your selection of palette, shapes and even brushwork..... Pushing and pulling of landscape features through the space of the canvass can be achieved through scale, value and colour and I think it was the relationship between lights and darks in your image that needed balancing first. At the same time you have to worry about composition and the path the viewer's eye will take through the painting as well as how to convey the immense scenic detail in a most economic way....

Hope this blabber and the overpaint help Smile

Hey, thanks for the tip, Jabo.

I actually have the profile set to sRGB, but i'll try no profile...

Thanks to you too, Ocatavian. I appreciate the comment.

I know it's lame to post without a pic, but i'm in the midst of finals so i have no time to upload paintings right now..

thanks annis, nice studies.
sup_ben: yeah, I guess that's a good idea. nice angle and colors btw!

torso study in photoshop. trying to make it sketchy to give it a less digital and cold feeling to it. the brush I use is good but feels very much like crayon.. is there any way to get a more wet feeling? (wet edges just look rather weird)

Daryl - I see only Daryl when you post, no matter which software you use. You should see me swearing at the canvas, the brushes and the paint when I try traditional media. But then I guess you're a different class...

Bokirazarac - most economic. Flaskpost I also like watching Bob Ross on TV - he knows the thing he does, and there is no danger of him influencing your style.

Zhuzhu is back! And with a whole different style!

Trying to use what I learned from previous copies. An original me:

And another study
