ok, so my mother hijacked me to teach a class in digital drawing with some wacom pads. i know lot's of different techniques but since i'm not a teacher, i have a hard time to come up with suitable material. it's the first time ever i have to teach anyone anything and the course spans 2 days 2x8 hours with children around the age of 13-15.

i was to expect them to be already interested in drawing and my job is to show the wacom pads as another approach. I will be using Photoshop and Painter.

i don't really know where to start as i'm afraid i will start out with too difficult stuff... has anyone here been there and done that - and could you maybe share some tips and tricks.

thanks!

One suggestion I would make is to pick either Photoshop or Painter rather than using both. The programs are similar in that they are graphics programs, but in use they are quite different... unless, of course, your students are already familiar with one or the other.

Since you are introducing a digital medium, I'd stress the differences between traditional and digital. e.g. with traditional: working on one level... digital: working on multiple levels (layers) often without the need to fully define background imagery before working on foreground imagery. Traditional: get it right before the next step... digital: control Z (history), able to adjust objects after placement. ... etc. etc. etc...

BTW... I went to your site and clicked on your link to www.secretrelay.com and got a message indicating that it couldn't be found.

You might like to check out Art Rage 2 which is an easy to use painting software and the children can start painting immediately once they get used to the tablet.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

ujwala: maybe in time i will pick up on this program, if have to do this again... right now i'd rather go for the progs i know at heart

eyewoo: working with only one program seems like a good idea only to use one program. i talked with one person who educates complete newcomers to photoshop and she starts with showing how the selection, brush and eraser tools work. and then let the students work on a small project using only those tools... then show some other tools and let them work with that...

i just have to figure out what to use as projects they can work on, but i guess i will scout the net for some tuts.

Thanks,
Summer

You might try some of the basic silly things everyone has fun with, like swapping heads on two people, or putting a head on a dog's body, or making a basic "gel" button, and writing their name on it using the text tool...

The simpler the project, the more time you'll have to help those who are new to digital art.

Hope this helps!
