I just found out from a friend that they use that 23" Sony at Blue Sky Animation. That's a pretty solid endorsement.
I'll probably go ahead and buy one this week sometime, since my taxes didn't wound me too badly this year.
The only thing that gives me pause is that it's a 16:10 display, so I'd be losing a little bit of my 4:3 tablet.
edit: OH GOD I JUST ORDERED A $1000 MONITOR _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

received the monitor yesterday and looked at this some hours. it is more really much CRT like. Quite bright but contrasty. Colours are sooo many. When I did look at old digital photographies which appears to be very well rendered. Just as real photos :) (it was not the case with the notebook). So far, my impressions are very positive and feel the urge for a calibrator because I run mixed lightning. Default temperature settings didnt seem fit right and eyes are not enough for to measure for custom K settings :)
1980Fxi with S-IPS panel is warmthly recommended for painting and photography! |

It's funny, instead of my new monitor looking huge, it makes everything around it look small.

Hi everybody!
I've been also searching for a new display for a while now
and i think it will be the EIZO S2110W.
http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/s2410w_s2110wsp/index.asp
The technical details speak for itself
and it seems that the backlight brings the quality of a CRT to this LCD. |

S2110 quality is questionable compared with most expensive L series regarding LCD display choice. I dont think the price of the large monitor marked with Eizo is worthy! I'd take a Fotomac instead if one is motivated to get 1600x for low price! Otherwise go with most expensive Eizo, Nec ;) haha rofl I'm thinking about full Adobe rgb display..... The new Dell displays dont need to be ignored anyway.. I like the design and lcd panel choice is not bad! |

I didn't made a decision yet,
but i count on the good reports about EIZO-displays.
And is the price of around 1000 $ worthy or not? ...
As i know there are no other displays with a complete "background-illumination".
Brightness and contrast are important details especially for graphic-applications
as well as a good brightness-distribution (no "colorchanging" on the screen).
Greetz. |

well said, galathriel
if I had 1k $, I'd paid for anything good :) If Eizo is good, it doesnt mean that the low end from Eizo can compete with other brands regarding price and quality. Like as to recommend some Leica-Panasonic items when one is urging for a M (or R) himself. I bought the 19" LCD from NEC as refurbished item from deutsch ebay so it was for 350 Euros incl ship. then I' say it's hell worth the price. I rather spend 1k $ for next monitor refurb/used as Eizo CG19. I checked some tests of Nec Spectraview 21 Reference also. This support full illumination of every "diod" (Im not a scientist but most usual monitors use another source as backlighting) but I can believe the monitor is in the same market as Cg19, CG220 are competing from eizo. Cg220 support full Adobe RGB colorspectrum as the Nec Reference monitor. Of course, anyone cannt afford the price of such monitors but I did choose the one from Nec based on the design. I do a lot of potraits so pivot mode is useful for me. When I run 100% for Brightness and Contrast, I found that the ratio is very strong (good) even at full day light! It adjusts automatically also for home light (for movies) to please eyes. The long-time need of dual/tripple outputs (dualdvi and rgb) is finished. Im using another called Fe1250+ which do have simple rgb output which I lived with for long time. So now I use the 1980Fxi extensively from two computers. Choose Athlon or Centrino for every day use, haha |

Yes Tomasis,
if you mean the S2110W doesn't fit in the pricerange of the thread-creator
you are right
(but this display is not the only one here with a higher price)
and btw. i won't spend 5000 $ for a Spectraview 21 or CG220 =)
The S2110W seemed to be a good alternative to his expensive brother.
I only want to hear another opinion about the eizo and give an
example for another pricerange.
I think i will go on searching a little bit for the "right" display.
Greetings |

If still someone of you is looking for a new screen, then perhaps have also a look at Samsung. In the office all our artists have now a Samsung SyncMaster 214T and this one convinced me finally that flatscreens are now good enough to replace the CRTs. I even think they are better: sharper, brighter, bigger, and really flat screen.
A couple of weeks ago my own 19" CRT at home gave up (reddish and very blurry) so I decided to also buy one of those Syncmasters. First I had of course a look around, just to see what else is there and found a widescreen version of it: Samsung SyncMaster 244T. It was a good bit more expensive ( 1080,- ) but I had to have it.
Its 24", in 16x10 (1920x1200) and Im really, really happy with it. It has quite some nice features too (like: pivot, tilt, swivel, picture in picture mode, USB-Hub...).

24" Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 1920x1200 (16:10) Panel: Samsung LTM240M1-L01 (PVA 6-bit+2x2 dither)
PVA (Patterned-ITO Vertical Alignment): Developed by Samsung, PVA is
very similar to MVA. Viewing angles are very similar and inversion is
minimal at wide viewing angles. As far as we know, Samsung rates their
PVA panels as 6-bit and the S-PVA ones as 8-bit color depth panels..
the 214T is S-PVA |
