This is pretty much finished, but I haven't painted in a while and I was curious to see what sort of comments and suggestions I could get. I draw armored people a lot because there is something inherently neat about the concept. So, any ideas as to how things are going, or what could be done would be greatly appreciated.

I also saw Tinusch's cave picture in the gallery/finished work section, I swear the similarity in the scenery is just a freakish coincidence since I saw it after I had started on this. So, my apologies.

MC meeting another oracle in Halo 3? lol kidding, I like the rendering of the cave, very nice painterly, rocky feel. Is this supposed to be... kiddish? The design of the suit and pose of the astronaut seems to suggest that. I think it could work well as part of a larger story, but on its own it seems kind of empty, with quite a lot of unecessary unused space.

Godwin, thanks for the comments! It's interesting you mentioned it being kiddish. This painting pretty much was a fleshing-out of some childhood memories of playing video games, particularly the metroid series. The empty space kind of plays into a feeling of loneliness or solitude I was trying to express, but it might be too much.

Here's a cropped version of the image that is less wide-open. Although the cave seems to loose some of its "Grraaah, I'm a cave and I'll swallow you" feeling heheh :

try different colours, different saturation

it feels like the pix is too bright, I dont find no much contrast which can make the pic better.

try paint LESS details to get the painting

good luck

It is a nice picture... definitely gives off a sense of mystery and apprehension.

I think the shapes are too much the same throughout. The same roundness on the rocks and the parts of the suit. More variety in shape is what I miss in the picture.

I really appreciate your input guys, thanks. Here's what it looks like now:

Since the last one, I cropped the image, cranked down the saturation, and tweaked the colors a bit. As I was working on it, I became very bored trying to make the three-balled floater look dignified with all the changes, so I went with the terrified(?) fungus-tree thing. It might be sticking out against the background too much, but I was trying to make it look phosphorescent.

[edit] Made it a little darker...
