SETH! Wonderful improvement! Like I said before, dude...get dat mileage! When I was drawing like a madman, the rule was to go thru at least a pencil a day. Do dat for a good year and watch what happens.
dnschi: i like dat little cowboy dude.

Alright, so I'm switiching up for a second. I was looking at Frazetta on Sunday and I forgot how fuckin' dope this dude was! Thick ass women. Buff warriors...what more do you want??? Anyway, I wasn't trying to emulate his style...but, his work did inspire a new direction, temporarily for me, so this is one of the things that came out. The other one is in the SP.

imager777: Cool studys man! Keep them comming...
WickedBassist: Hey man! May help if you do a quick set up figure befor you go into the actually drawing! Might help lossen up the drawing and allso using different line weight in your lines would vary the whole drawing...

Thought i would just post a quick drawing

I love the stuff posted here, for some reason I've always preferred sketch or line art over fully-rendered images Smile

Here's a digital sketch I did of Monica Bellucci ... although the resemblance is a little subtle if you ask me Smile

Wow Seth, that's really amazing. You should be proud. May ask how you managed to accomplish this? I'm still trying to learn, my skills are comparable (probably a little bit worse) to yours from a year ago. How did you manage to improve so much? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

May I ask how you all get your traditional artwork onto the computer? Do you take digital photos of it or scan it? I think scanning for me is out of the question, because charcoal is messy and I don't have any fixative at the moment, not to mention how much of a hassle it would be. So for those of you who take pictures, how do you go about it to get a good quality? I tried some with and without the flash, and the flash seemed to get rid of the darkness, but without it it seemed kind of blurry and discolored.

Anyway here's something I did a couple days ago. I know I already posted it in my thread in the WIP forum, but this daily drawing routine is something I think I want to get into, so I better bring it back to life! Muaahahaha.

EDIT: Thanks, Eyewoo, I took the new photos with natural light and the camera on the table (I know, not quite what you suggested Very Happy ) and they came out alot clearer.

Using a digital camera without flash or side lighting, you would probably need at least a 5 megapixel camera (8 megapixels would be better) and definitely use a tripod. Set the camera to shoot on it's self-timer so there is no slight camera motion from pushing the button.

Best natural lighting would be outside in a shaded area.

Here's a few more stuffs from me. I bought toned paper yesterday and it is exciting!! I'd love some comments on any of these, if you feel inclined. Just keep in mind that some things are unfinished, like for example I know the nose on the self portrait sucks. But I'd love comments on the other two because those are as done as they're gonna get.

So, I actually had some time to draw in the army...

Note that this was digitally composited (2 pages) and recoloured but the linework is all untouched.

annis: Thanks man! Yeah hard work pays off!

Reakshun: haha! man that would be expensive:P 80 cents per pencil:O I am trying to go through 100 page sketch book a week! It seems to be helping. Sick brush pen man! keep posting...

Exclamation: Yeah i agree man! I love looking at lines and you can sometimes tell how a person is feeling that day with the line they produce! Also amazing to look at how every one precives every thing different!

kinj: wow! thanks man! Yeah i am pretty stoked! but I still need to improve more and more! I will never stop where I am! allways be pushing my self to produce something better then the last! If you push your self dont say you will draw today, DRAW today. It's because people are lazy. That is why they dont improve in drawing, they dont practice, they dont take an hour out of there day to go draw some, spoons, or there family members from life. Also it's good to read about theroy and get lots of art books and read and read! Learn tons doing that as well. I could progressed so much more if I would actually dedicated myself more, and now I am releasing alot more then i did befor when I was starting out. It seems you dont know how to take in information that is put in front of you but you got every thing you need! You just need to stick that on paper! It's hard agree, but thats the whole challange, and if you want to produce something you need to push it, anlayze it, look at it different not how you would normally view and every day object, person etc.... how a line meets and why a line ends and how light and shadow fall on it to produce form! It's all about the practice! Draw from life as much as you can I think that is what helped me out most and making myself produce something better then the last drawing, also ive allways keep the people in mind that are viewing the drawing, trying to please them as well! You will allways be drawing for someone so why not try and make every drawing count and mean something? Hope that helps out in some way! Sorry for the late reply... Cheers Seth.

notic: Very cool man! I think some studys of the skull structure would really do you good! Keep the sketches comming>

byrCo: Nice work man! Keep posting.

Chruser: The the varity in line! Keep posting mate.

3nasty: Hehe! you have some very fun drawings man! Keep them comming!

Mega Muffin: What might help is laying down a basic sketch of cones, spheres, circles as a under drawing and then build up from there! Or lay in the first mid value that will be used as the back round and then pick out the forms with your kneaded erase and bring in the darks where needed. Keep posting!

Godwin: Very nice mate! Love the feel of the toned paper! It really stands out to the black ink! Hope the army going good for you! Take an easy. Keep posting when you can.

Concentration piece number 3? I'm not sure if I like it/if it's good enough.

Seth - Thanks for the advice. I do the midtones thing already (what a great trick though, huh? Very Happy ) I'll try some shapes next time. Nice hands, btw!
