Hey, all, allow me to introduce myself. Name's Enrique Garcia and I'm a working designer & illustrator in southern California. I've been a lurker for a long while and dig a lot of the stuff I see here.

Thought I'd make my first image post here my latest image, a quickie image. Line art was done in Illustrator, painting in ArtRage and comped with a paper texture in Photoshop. I also use a Wacom tablet. This is my usual digital painting criteria.

This image was done in around 45 minutes, I believe. Which brings me to my question: what exactly is speedpainting? Or rather, how much time does the image have to be done in to qualify? Thanks!

This definitely qualifies as a speed painting.
I think anything up to 2 hours could be a speedy. Although many people post images they spent over 10 hours on into the speed paint thread. They feel its not so important that it needs its own thread. Thats ok too. Nobody has ever complained.

So basically you can put anything you want into the speed thread Smile

Thanks for explaining, Tzan. Ya, I had wondered about many images I've seen in the speedpainting threads, some intricate and elaborate pieces and a lot of times I'd go "no WAY was this done in 1-2 hours" Razz

The idea behind speedpaintings is that after working for about an hour, you should be well on your way to a nice painting. If it looks crappy after an hour, it'll look crappy no matter how long you try to turd polish, so it would be best to start over.
