You decided to finally say no to a life of luxury and move to some far away spot and live with natives? Or just decided you�d prefer cash to some stuff you don�t really need anyways?

Well, it seems wrong to me to have something useful lying on a shelf gathering dust when it could be of use to someone else (who may not be as fabulously wealthy, fashionable and dashingly attractive* as myself).

* may be a violation of Trade Descriptions Act

Well, I thought about European mail, but I've personally had so much bad luck with international mail (the Villpu series was one such catastrophy) that I just don't want to risk it any more.

But seriously Max, I would be making much more on these by selling internationally. I know it sucks, but the price I'd charge for insurance etc. would probably put most people off.

Maybe when I put the next batch up I'll extend to EU. (3 Scott Robertsons, 2 Ryan Church, 1 Dusso, and a partridge in a pear tree)

[edit - by my calculation it would be about �6 (�10) to send Recorded mail to Europe. Would this be considered too much? I could still ammend the auction for European mail. ]

When I was shopping for stuff on ebay last time, I realized how many of you UK guys have shipping to UK only chosen. Amazes me every time. I mean why not ship anywhere in the whole world? If you state that you only ship insured you�re off fine and might just make someone happy in addition to probably making more money than keeping it local.

I was checkin out some of the clips on the gnomon site and the ones I looked at (dusso, mccaig) didn't seem very instructional. It was just like talented people doing their thing in an offhand manor (as though it wasn't the subject of the DVD at all) whilst chatting to you like peer (rather than as a mentor).

Is this a fair review? Are you just watching a guy draw whilst he makes small talk? Or are they actually packed with nourishment?

Clearly they are not going speak words which, like magic spells, endow you with talent, and I'm not even sure what I expected, but the clips do seem a little desolate.

How'd you rate them ceenda?

Hehe, nah, if I was out to make a buck there's plenty of things lying around I'd sell first. Wink

By far the most instructional from a verbal point of view are the Scott Robertson and Ryan Church ones. Scott goes on at length about a whole ton of useful things related to perspective and form.

Dusso is very quiet for the most part. Tends to talk alot about his love of arial photography... Laughing

but his sketching technique in Vol 1 is quite revealing. His matte painting Vol 2 is great for learning about painting on existing hi-res photographs. I learnt quite a bit from that, in particular things like layer effects and 3D compositing (he uses a basic 3D model and uses textures on different layers) as well as just freehand drawing on layers to add buildings etc..

But yes, Dusso isn't too big on chat. But he does do some great 'speedpaints' in Vol 1.

I'm holding on to Vol 2 because I still look at it from time to time.

Bob: Yeah, to be honest, I find the whole sniping thing kinda annoying (though not when I'm selling, obviously...). Ultimately, it will always come down to people stating at the very beginning the complete maximum that they are prepared to bid for an item. The actual process of 'bidding' has long since been abandoned. It's seemingly just a case of "call my bluff" thesedays.

It's impossible with a browser (even if you're using broadband) to keep upping a bid in the final few seconds, so I guess sniping is becoming the default practice. In which case, I'm surprised eBay don't just add it as part of the service, or change their automatic bidding functionality so that it actually works.

I don't think Dusso could have said much to what he was doing, it was more of a process you must find yourself. Seeing how he does it makes finding your process whole lot easier though.

If you want a lot of useful talking, try Iain McCaig. His DVD number one, The Visual Storytelling is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. While McCaig is fun, he's also very instructive of how to make your stories really work and how to tell your story in pictures. I learned a LOT. Also you just gotta see how he adapts H.C Andersen's story the Little Mermaid. It actually resulted in me finding the original story and READING it. Does that give you any idea of how impressive that DVD was?
