So I'm working from one of these two references for a painting:
which would you say is stronger, compositionally? why (optional)?
A
B

'A' has an uncomfortable amount of head visible, which is distracting. B gets bland and dead at the top.
In my opinion, crop a sliver off the top of B, so that the forehead is visible but the hair falls outside the image.
I like it like this. |

A. Is a very nice composition.
B. and C. look like fashion shots for a pair of jeans.
Use A. for sure. |

I definitely like A more than B. With B, the focus seems to be more on the guy himself(like a portrait) and less on the lines and composition that his body creates. To address Capt. Fred's comment, you could maybe take even a little more off the top of A, so it doesn't cut off so close to his eye line(which was kinda distracting for me). |
