Hey guys, I'm kind of a noob at drawing, and I want to get a graphic tablet. Which kind do you recomend? And is it possible to get it shipped to Norway? It is really important to get it to Norway.... lol. _________________ I have a dream! It has yellow spots and is insane! |

Yes, I know about Wacom and have been considering them. According to a shop I found online the best for semi-professionals is the Graphire series. Would you agree? _________________ I have a dream! It has yellow spots and is insane! |

I used to own a Wacom "Pen Partner", which (afaik) was the forerunner to the Wacom "Graphire". At first I was suprised at how small the drawing area was, but after a while, regardless of the drawing area, you become accustomed to it and drawing in that space becomes intuitive.
Just don't get greedy and buy a Wacom that's too big! I was going to get the A4 (12x8) but instead went for a 12x12. Absolutely stupid. It's too big, the wrong aspect ratio, and even with the Quick Point (4:3) option, it still hardly fits on the desk.
I always throw it down when I'm done with it. I keep silently hoping it will break and then I can feel justified in buying a new one, but Wacom just make these things too solid. |

Why not just sell it and put the money towards a new one? |

Possibly because most people won't buy an Intuos 1 with no box and missing accessories with a surface that looks rougher than Marv's face in "Sin City".
Even the stylus resembles a spliff with all the masking tape around it...
Though I might eBay it... some day...
But a decent monitor comes first. |

Graphire 2/3s shouldn't be too expensive now no? I saw an Intuos 3 at the same price the other day as the graphire 3 (same size I believe) I got over a year ago, and this is in Singapore, where there's super-low demand for such things.
To my understanding, the Graphire and Intuos lines are basically the same, the Intuos series is meant more for professionals and has more features (tilt control, more pressure levels, fancy buttons on the tablet, grip pen, etc.) but you won't die without them.
you. I don't think there's anything else on the market as trustworthy as Wacom's tablets, these things may be expensive, but it's a worthy investment that'll last _________________ Derelict Studios|Godwin's Space |

It's not a wacom but has the same features/feel as a wacom.
My first tablet was a 4x6 wacom then I gave that to my sister and got this one. It has the same feel. The pen does use a battery though, but I have yet to replace the battery. It's just as percise as the wacom though maybe the "hover" area is a little less but it could be my imagination.
I got a tablet with a defect though, a big pimple-like bump on the surface. Not enough for me to send the thing back but still annoying.
Also, I can't figure out how to make the photoshop and flash read the pressure info of the tablet, it works fine with ArtRage though.
My suggestion is you buy the cheaper adesso one simply because it's a hell of a lot cheaper but still feels like a wacom. Of course if money is not an option then buy a wacom.
Just my 2 cents. |

That's a pretty huge downside right there. That means Painter probably won't read it either. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I have a 6x8 Graphire 3 that I got for...like $160? I love it! I think it's just the right size--can't imagine wanting one much bigger (if any bigger). I think I've had it for a bit under 2 years now, and it still holds up great. I take good care of it though. I remember getting all upset because there were scratches on the plastic overlay, but just recently I found them to be only scuff marks, easily wiped off with a bit of water! Plus, it's really stylish looking and you won't need another mouse, because the one they give you works great. I have my desk set up so that the keyboard is on the desk right in front of the monitor and the tablet is on the roll-out keyboard table-thing...you know, those little surfaces that slide out from under a desk-top to hold keyboards, yeah.
I am really happy with my wacom. I kept the box (it is still taking up space in my room, lol) and all the little papers and whatnot so that I could someday sell it, and I really thought I would have upgraded by now, but the tablet I have just works awesomely for me.
It's what I would reccommend, anyway. |

I am thinking of buying a Graphire 3 either classic or studio(The studio pack comes with more different software programs) A6 sized. The classic costs 176.943 USD and the studio costs 238.549 USD, which according to my mom(who pays for it) is not too much... _________________ I have a dream! It has yellow spots and is insane! |

the Wacom.com web site has a little quick quiz you can take to determine what size and kind you should buy. Personally i'm sticking with Wacom for now and i just got my Intuos 3 12x8 and its absolutly rad. The price was about 390-403 bucks. My intuos 1 lasted ~6-7 years of hard thrashing, then my brother knocked it out of his truck onto the concrete and it went on the fritz soon after.
My warnings on getting a wacom.
Whatever size you get, your going to be hooked on that size.. you will be aclimated to either a large or small tablet.
The large ones (like mine) are huge and not too easy to just really throw around. some people paint with a small tablet up on their desk.. i put my big tablet right in front of me and have a wierd way of holding the top edge and clicking shortcuts with my free fingers. I'm big on having the tablet big like the screen and painting directly below it so it mimics closely what i am doing. I do not like small tablets for doing larger painterly artwork. |
