hi,

my very big problem with drawing is that i usually have soo many ideas in my head, but i can never draw them. for example i wanna draw some world of warcraft warlock. then i already see it in my head but when it comes to drawing..it just doesnt work. i try to be very concentrated and focus like..lets say on 'what do the undead warlock hands look like?" then i concentrate..adn concentrate...but i cant put it on the paper. there is something blocking the connection of brain-> | hand. its really annoying me. what can i do to solve that? im a very calm person and never nervous or something usually. so i just wonder....whats the trick? the problem isnt that i cant control my hand. or maybe it is? well...hope somebody has/had the same issues -.-

Sound like a pianist trying to think about and understand all of the notes he is pressing with the fingers of his left and right hands as he plays a piece of music. he would not last a minute. Just start the process and let your unconscious take the worst of the burden.

After that, evaluate and repeat (until guru-like!).

;)

I would suggest a course of study in the human form or anatomy. This can, of course, be done from a whole host of existing books and/or reference material available on the Internet. Once you are comfortable with drawing from reference and have a good understanding of anatomy, then the problem will probably resolve itself.

Drawing happens mostly in your brain, and not in your hand. You may think you got that Warcraft guy all figured out in your head, but you don't. There's a lot of things we do out of habit that are not connected to what's really happening in reality. That's why you have to use reference, draw from life, and so on..

Maybe your attitude is really your worst problem.

You can't learn to draw without practicing, and you won't practice if everytime you draw, you judge yourself harshly. What happens is you'll tire of feeling bad as you judge your drawings and eventually you'll just stop drawing. The key is to practice and remain unattached to the outcome. Find artist that create the types of drawings you like, and then find sources that teach you how to draw like those artist. Then apply those lessons to your own drawings and let your own style develope naturally. You have to really want it with a passion, but still be kind to yourself by being non-judgemental. Don't get me wrong, you're looking to improve, but not beating up on yourself along the way. You have to practice non-judgement in order to allow the growth process. Wink
