Well I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Hammer, the mapping editor for Half Life 2, was none other than the classic Worldcraft (which I built many a map for Quake, Quake2 and Half Life with). Awesome. I've loaded this application but have reached a standstill with the Texture loading section. Apparently Half Life 2 doesn't use the old ".wad" format, nor does the setup dialogue have the new texture format available as an option. I have scoured the internet, even joined other forums looking for answers to the correct way to set Hammer up, but I keep hitting deadends.

Does ANYONE have any idea how to set this clunker up??

Thanks for the links, but here's the update:

The latest verison of Hammer is 4.0, and it comes with the HL2 SDK, which is accessible only through Steam; I figured this out last night after stumbling across references to Hammer 4.

Hammer 4? There's a Hammer 4?

Anyway I found out how to get it - what a pain in the ass Evil or Very Mad ; however, it was made up by the fact that when you install Hammer 4, it preconfigs EVERYTHING for you - not build or game paths, texture loads, etc. All done. My problem was that I thought I had the latest version (3.4 - lol!), which has no config parameters for Half Life 2 - only Half Life and all relative mods. Imagine my confusion!

Now to get busy . . .

Smile

I recommend this site for Half Life 2 tutorials. I've even written a few myself concerning the new hammer. Laughing
