Do you say "I found this on the website" or "I found this in the website"?
We say "I read it IN the magazine."
We say "I learned that IN the movie."
We say "I heard it ON the radio"
We say "I saw that ON TV"
And for the actual file contents of a computer, do you say "on the computer" or "in the computer"? |

In is exclusive, On is inclusive. For example, I have a bunch of pictures IN a directory ON my website. There was funny stuff IN that specific broadcast ON tv.
Futhermore, there's a wide variety of things stored ON my computer, IN specific folders.

I think it's a hierarchical consideration. Your can't go any further up than your website or your computer, so all your content is ON it. You can go one unit bigger than a folder or directory though, so things are stored IN them.

When in doubt about expressions, it can sometimes be helpful to google for the different phrases that come to mind. "In a website" (with appended quotes) generates 98,600 results, while "on a website" generates 728,000 results. It is not a flawless method by any means, but it tends to give you an accurate answer most of the time when there are no magical grammar references/dictionaries at your disposal to help you solve your hardships. Unless, perhaps, the flaw is fairly common. Popular media "volumous" versus the actual "voluminous"?[/ramble]

DAMN, I can't access the actual videos, and I had to use wProxy.com to get to the page in the first place. Well, at least I'll be going back to the States soon, so I won't have to deal with this crap again. |
