I did a large-scale drawing a while ago, which was a symetrical geometrical pattern - very complex, lots of detail. It was hand-drawn, but I am now hoping to do something similar as a photo etching. In this case, the texture is added by the etching rather than the drawing, therefore the original design does not necesarily have to be hand-drawn. I was wondering which computer programs would be good for designing this type of pattern - as the image is symetrical on four sides/corners, a program which could do automatically mirror one corner on all four corners would be ideal. Is there anything out there? |

Corel Painter actually has a symmetrical drawing function that will mirror your strokes on the horizontal, the vertical, or both. You can get a demo version at www.corel.com if you want to see if it will suit your needs. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I suspect you can mirror images in just about any complete graphics program. Certainly Photoshop can do the job as well.
...also vector based graphics programs like Illustrator or CorelDRAW, which may be a better choice for this type of picture. _________________ HonePie.com

Painter will actually mirror it as you're drawing, though. Or at least I think it will. It's been a while since I played with it, and I haven't installed my copy of 9 yet. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |
