My school is holding a logo contest with a cash prize of $500. Needless to say, I've made a logo and will probably make a couple more and submit the under my friends' names. Any feedback on this one would be greatly appreciated, as I could really use the money.

Yes, I sampled the colors from the school's website.
As for the rest, there was no brief- just a poster that said Student Life needs a new logo. The design isn't based off of anything, really, I just sketched a few ideas and used one. Do you think that I should shrink the letters and give them margins inside of the circles?

My only idea to improve upon the design would be to add some elements of the student life progam to the logo. They have mission statements or something like that, so I could try wrapping the words around the circles.

a good logo should be simple, like the one you've got, but that means everything in it should be about Student Life. so, if you have circles, they should mean something.. your logo so far doesn't read any kind of activity to me yet... i don't think it's more text that you need... try to think of all that Student Life involves, and then imagine what it would look like if it was an abstract painting. then use those elements in your logo (for instance, maybe the letters are slanted to show a lot of activity, or a stylized shooting star behind them to signify achievement.. it sounds cliche, but this is what i used for my school's bumper sticker design, and they're still usin it 4 yrs later). the design that'll win will be easy to read, and probably the simplest one that still maintains a personality..

I think you should write Student Life with beercans and broken winebottles. Because that's what student life's all about.

Core Values
Advocacy : We champion the needs and concerns of our students to provide a caring and just campus community.
Balance : We encourage health lifestyle choices in response to daily challenges and competing priorities.
Challenge : We purposefully engage others to consider what could be by encouraging them in "thinking outside the box" to create positive change.
Collaboration : We partner with other University departments, working as a team, to maximize the campus life experience.
Inclusiveness : We value, accept, and embrace all people in our community as demonstrated through our behaviors and established policies and practices.
Integrity : We employ honesty and ethical decision-making practices in all that we do.
Learning : We provide meaningful and insightful experiences that shape our personal and professional development.

That's taken straight from the student life website. I can't image taking those ideas and representing them without being too obvious. I figure I can wrap those words around the circles, as I said previously. Fortunately, I'm majoring in graphic design so whether it be now or later, I will learn much more about logo design and the like...
And thank you to those who are helping me out with this- it means a lot to me.

I would do something in the form of the logo shown below as well. Try to keep it as simple as possible in the end.

And apply it to other mediums for extra points.
