I recently installed the Full version of XP and ditched ME. During the process I remember reading a message about adjust the virtual memory to avoid some sort of problem. I think I found the problem... Everytime I'm surfing the net, XP reboots without warning. The screen just goes black and my computer shuts down. Shocked Has anyone had any experience with this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? As I stated, I think it has to do the the vitural memory setting.

Thanks. Smile

ohh the old xp reboot trick, yea windows xp is sensitive when it comes to problems with hardware and software.
I've had experience with this a year ago and for me it took ages to find the problem since I do wanna fix my computer stuff myself but it was my motherboard causing problems, I was chatting about it on the net and I have heard people getting the same re-boot thing when their harddrive was broken and also power supply so it can be anything really. But be sure to set that paging file (virtual memory), maybe you have had already.

Back when I had the problem I did install window 98 and windows ME to see if the error receeded in there but xp was the only system causeing errors. So funny thing is that you can use windows 98 with a faulty Motherboard, she is trustworthy old betsy lol, *snif me misses the old dos-prompt in 98.

There is a setting in "System", "System properties", "advanced", "startup and recovery" and then see if any of the system failure settings is checked, then u can try to un-check any of them, like the automatically restart option if it is set.

ok I hope u will find the problem, thought I could tell u about what I did encounter so u know that there can be stuff with the hardware aswell.
Now I have to look into a problem I've had lately with a remote procedure call, seems to cause problem when I am trying to remove an ad-ware in me system, think I liked that old version of ad-aware better, oh well.
have a nice day. Smile

Just had that happen with a 3 year old HyperSonic running XP. Turned out to be the power supply...

Matthew, I'm was undecided when I bought Adaware Pro. I felt it wasn't quite as powerful, somehow. Once I learned how to fine-tune communications with "bad" sites, I changed my opinion. Any ad site can be blocked just that fast. It is definitely great at stopping the insideous ones like atwola, servedby, doubleclick, and the rest!

Could be a lot of things.
Looking at your power supply was a great tip.

If the screen going black is the first thing that happens,
update your video drivers. In fact update all the drivers
you can.

Make sure your DirectX is up to date.

Install and run with your AdAware:
Spybot S&D
AVAST!
ZoneAlarm

If you can pay for goodies
also get:
SpySweeper
PANDA Platinum

Just a small trick to those of you who DO get a shutdown warning in Windows XP (T-60 seconds until DOOOOM), just click start > run, and type:

shutdown -a

Clearly you have committed an abomination against God.

Sacrifice three lambs and set them atop a burning pyre, stat.

I'm pretty sure that balistic is the singular entity responsible for all the wtf pictures on the internet.

I mean, you can will them into being from a flaming maelstrom of inexistence, right?
