Will someone please explain to me what Dune is all about?
It sounds very interesting and if it's a book I'm really eager to read it. |

Hi Odd!
Dune is the master piede of science fiction. Written by Frank Herbert (I think in the middel 60's) it is a wide universe where the struggle for power in all its forms appears.
Politics, economics, social themes are represented in all the books (not only Dune, but "The sons of Dune" and a long list of followers), and most of the sci-fi movies and books around nowadays owe something to Dune (starting by Star Wars, of course).
My 2 cents of Euro- _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

Ceenda, that pic is fantastic. It's got a great epic quality in its simplicity. I'm not much of an artist myself but I find great visuals such an inspiration for writing music (my main line of work).
Interesting fact, did anyone know that Hrkkonen is a Finnish surname?! It was only after met a Finnish girl and came to Finland and learned a little Finnish that I thought back to Dune and though, hey, that sounds really Finnish!
Of course he writes Harkonnen in the book, but that seems much too close to Hrkkonen to be coincidental.
Sparth, those covers are amazing! Gritty and dramatic. |

The answer is easy: the first one: "Dune". The followers are always "xxxxxx of Dune" or something like that. _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

Shit. I just got back from the library and I brought back with me some drawing books along with Dune Messiah. The regular Dune wasn't there.
Are they all an ongoing story, or is it alright that I read the 2nd one first? |

I think you should read first "Dune", Odds. The introduction to the whole story is there, and maybe you won't understand everything well if you don't follow the order... _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

Oh, cool! I traveled to another city to get Dune. I just finished reading the first two chapters, and it seems pretty cool. I like how every other chapter it talks about the opposing side. For example, the first chapter talks about the Reverend Mother, Jessica, and the human son. Then, in the next it talks about how the side Reverend Mother, Jessica, and the son are on will be trapped into a sort of war thing. Good stuff, I'm going to go read some more now. |

You're all amazing. wow.
I'd say read Dune, and the other books up to God Emperor, then read the prequels, then when you finally reach the last prequel, read dune again, as well as the rest of all the books.
Then read the first prequel to the last book, all over again.
