This portrait was done in pencil, and modified in photoshop.

All crits welcome.

Yea, great drawing besides the un-refined hair. But, it's not a very interesting subject matter... I'd love to see you put those skills to something like an action drawing or something. Smile

beautiful!!!, i love the face and as you draw the lips, very beautyful. The hair is not important for me, for example danvinci only drew a few lines in portraits. So single the left eye seems a little big.

Thanks for the comments!

Yeah so true - I supose its easy for us to get jaded esp. with so much work out there. Ideally we come up with exceptionally original concepts expressed with exceptional means - thats "ideally". As far as original concept goes - a head and shoulders portrait is a no-brainer. What I have tried to do is create a strong expressive work within a well trodden gendre.

I tend to agree with bellas on this one. I think if I were to put too much detail in the hair, it would diminish the strength in the face.

bellas: yeah the eye is a little too big - that was noticed over at cgtalk as well

Thanks again for the input

Cheers

the hair kind of blends into the background a bit too much I think. I feel almost like her neck is really skinny because the hair covering it looks like it's behind her neck. But very nice

To me the hair looks way too big in the back. It appears that her hair is is a HUGE triangle coming from he neck. Great face but really for me the hair is kind of distracting because it is so large yet so undetailed.

great pencilwork, but a bit grey Wink
you should try to colorize it, for example: Hue: 135, Saturation: 102

Face is great, nice attention to detail.
For me the thing that lets it down is the background, too scribbled and (imo) to smudgy - (I dislike the smudge technique unless its done very well)
Maybe you could just fade the hair into a background tone on PS
Was a photo used or is the from a sitting?

Hi - Thanks you all, for your time and comments!

Dan: "I feel almost like her neck is really skinny because the hair covering it looks like it's behind her neck."

I understand your observation - it is a bit of an issue

B3AND1P: "for me the hair is kind of distracting because it is so large yet so undetailed."

Hmm.. Lots of comments about the hair - good food for thought

pangu: "great pencilwork, but a bit grey"

I was going for "gentle", "subtle" ... But perhaps some accents could have been added - good point

Feral: "Was a photo used or is the from a sitting?"

Yes a photo was used, but the model was a client, I set up the lighting, did the photo shoot, let the client select from the 36 images shot (1 roll of film), enlarged the image from the contact sheet, and then did the portrait.
