I'm used to b/w pencil drawings but now i'm trying to take it a step further.

It's supposed to be Mars btw Smile

I think it looks ok in big but when i scale it down to a thumbnail it looks wrong somehow.

Any comments much appreciated. Be gentle Wink

well, the colors do have a lot of saturation. but that not necessarily a bad thing. are you working form ref? maybe you could find some that would help. sorry, that's not much help is it.

maybe you're having value trouble and not color trouble. when you desaturate the image completely into graytones does is look right? if not, you should focus on that, then work on the colors.

thanks for your answer Ozan - much appreciated.

no i think the clear and saturated colors look fine... but maybe the hair should be made finer and more detailed than it is now. and maybe not have too much contrast.

the other thing is that maybe the light on her face indicates a brighter outside also. I figure the sun comming from almost straight in front of her.

Yes i'm working from a bad photo taken with a cell which lacks a lot of color and the lightning is slighty diffent.

I think probably the best thing to do when you are having trouble figuring out what colors to use is to look at some other artists work that have managed to capture the same mood that you are going for and figure out how they used color then apply it to your piece.

Might not be the colors at all though as well. Try making the image grayscale and see if you still feel everything looks ok.. Might just be your highlights and shadows knocking ya off. Make it grayscale and you can see the image and the tones/highlights without color to throw you off. (remember to undo or add another layer to add your colors on.)
