Good morning to all you Americans,
I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I've been recommended by a few peers I know from Art Center to attend an Illustration course there this summer. I want to make sure my portfolio is the best it can be for the time whenIi apply, so what things should I have? Also, I have a 3.6 (sometimes higher) GPA. Does Art Center usually accept high school students, or is it unlikely for most students to be accepted?
Thanks in advance,

Wow, Art center accepts High school students? I'm in 8th grade, I have about the same average as you, do you think my work would be good? This is just simple stuff, I have a lot more complex and better stuff lying around. This is OLD (last year)

If they have the same policies as when I went there, they do accept HS grads. But not many. The average age is 25. Most have at least a few years in another college or university. And most had not studied art or design.
It is probably a good idea to go learn other things before going to such a narrow trade school. I studied liberal arts for two years, very glad i did.
I bet if you talk to the people at AC about HS age people they might tell you that there is a little higher chance of dropouts or other problems with just not doing as well as the older students. I am guessing though. That was my perception when I was there. |

I have seen several (a few) HS graduate attending school here. Yea they are minority. I Dont know if all of them are not doing as well as the older students. But from my obversation, this is kinda true.
Spooge is right. Going to JC for couple years before attending AC is the way to go. espeically when u dont want to have too many liberal art classes get into your way when u are in AC.
I am not quite sure about the portfolio thing though, there are only a few judges for the entry portfolio. they might have weird tastes. I also heard that if u attend night class in AC and get to know certain teachers, it might be beneficial for your scholarship.
I guess to know what kind of stuff they are looking for is the key to get money from them. |

cool. i'm not talking about a graduate course though, spooge.
i'm definitely taking a life drawing class at a junior college right next to my house (for free!), so this will be good. a friend of mine, anim3idiot... if you've ever heard of him, he recommended me to try and take a class there this summer. i guess i'll still try to get a spot in the class. but, if i'm not accepted, which school do you recommend I attend first, spooge (anyone)?
thanks for the replies. |
