How bout making a sticky thread about buying a tablet? There are tons of people who's first posts here are like "what kind of tablet should I get?" (guilty here ) So, it's just an idea, but I don't think it would be a waste of space, seeing as we have so many unsticky threads about it. |

get the intuos 3, spend the money and you will not be disappointed. the bigger the better, you can really throw your body into it and get some awesome strokes. _________________

I've got a tablet, I was just saying that it would be a good idea to make a sticky topic about them, so people could stop asking. |

If it were sticky, it wouldn't take long to get WAY off topic.
And each time someone new user askes what tablet
they should get...
It doesn't take much effort to say:
"Get and Intuos3. The bigger the better." |

it wouldn't be open for discussion. Someone could just write a little thing about tablets, and when someone came they could read it and it would probably answer their questions. |

u could ask Sumaleth about it, I did that way back hence why that tutorial sticky was added. Not easy to make changes to the forum nowadays though.
About tablets, I like smaller tablets like Graphire, never liked those big ones.
see you |

Having a permanent sticky saying that everyone should buy a Wacom is tantamount to free advertising, and that's just weird.
However, it would save a lot of forum bandwidth if there was some sort of guide to digital tools. Not just tablets, mind you. There are a lot of repeat questions about programs, printers, monitors, free hosting services, etc.
I think a forum-wide survey could tackle both issues. It wouldn't be like having a Sijun endorsement for certain products. It would be more along the lines of "87% of the people who took this survey use a Wacom tablet, 75% of them use the 6 x 8" size. you might have some luck with this."
The survey itself should aim to include only fairly objective questions about equipment. Chances are pretty good that if you use Photoshop today, you'll use it tomorrow. There's no real need for massive reiteration everytime someone asks. Subjective material, however, like "who inspires you the most?" or "what book should i get?" are fairly transient and make conversation.
Here are some sample questions, to show the type and scope. In execution, they would be more succinct, but this is just a sketch.
Do you use a graphics tablet? If so, what brand?
a) No.
b) Wacom
c) Aiptek
d) Trust
e) Other
If you use a Wacom tablet, what type do you use?
a) Graphire 2
b) Graphire 3
c) Intuos 2
d) Intuos 3
e) Cintiq
f) Artpad
g) Other
Size?
a) 4 x 5"
b) 6 x 8"
c) 9 x 12"
d) 12 x 12"
e) 12 x 18"
Which software do you use primarily?
a) Photoshop
b) Painter
b2) 50% Photoshop, 50% Painter
c) Illustrator
d) Paint Shop Pro
e) Photopaint
f) CorelDRAW!
g) ArtRage
h) OpenCanvas
i) Other
Which version of Photoshop do you use, if you use it?
a) 1-4
b) 5-6
c) 7
d) CS
Which version of Painter do you use, if you use it?
a) 1-5
b) 6
c) 7
d) 8
e) 9
I'll email Sumaleth about this, how to go about doing it, etc. If any of you would like to help (with survey accuracy, knowledge of survey scripts, poll questions, anything), I'd greatly appreciate it. Shoot me an email, or a private message. _________________ QED, sort of. |

Impaler, this is a great idea, maybe some links could be added aswell to that thread with previous discussions about tablets and whatever, so newbies could see what kind of threads that has been posted already.
hmm no one seems to use the search button
Let me know if you want to have help with something.
