A fourth Terminator movie is readying to begin production in 2005, but it's unclear whether franchise star and current California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his most famous role, Variety columnist Michael Fleming reported. John Brancato and Michael Ferris, who wrote the script for the last installment, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, have completed a draft of a T4 script, which was developed under the supervision of T3 director Jonathan Mostow, the trade paper reported.
Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna are returning as producers. Formal negotiations will open shortly for a deal that would bring Mostow on as T4's director, the trade paper reported.
Similarly, talks have begun with Schwarzenegger to return for an encore, but the likelihood is that it would be in a limited role, as the Austrian Oak is currently occupied with his duties as California's chief executive, Fleming reported. Sources told Fleming that the expectation is that T4 will break in a new Terminator model.
There is no word on whether T3 stars Nick Stahl or Claire Danes have been approached to return for the sequel. Neither is believed to have been signed to an option agreement, Fleming reported.

I hope he'll get the role. It wouldn't be Terminator without him...
Well, on the other hand,....it's kinda wired... |

So many rumours out there. But hey, The Rock will be the new Terminator anyways. |

ARR! I still get angry when somebody mentions anything that reminds me of the Terminator 3 movie. I didn't expect much when I went to theater, but it turned out to be maybe the worst movie I've ever paid to see from screen. |

Watching T3 over again, there are parts that I enjoyed. Basically, anything without the 'Terminatrix', Claire Danes, and most of Schwarzenneger. Yes, it's true, I didn't much care for Arnie's portrayal of a Terminator in T3. It was badly acted, stilted, and I felt nothing for the Terminator. Cameron's at least portrayed character in the Terminator. But that's not to say I disliked T3.
I did enjoy the building of the Skynet stuff, and the whole angle of nuclear war inevitability with Connor thrust into the role. We know there will be a T4, and possibly even T5. Early speculation has Cameron coming back to either direct or oversee production of T5 with Arnie out of office by then, if he doesn't seek a second term as Governor (possibly because he wants to get back to Conan and other roles) or try and run for President should the legislation pass.
I would enjoy seeing Cameron pick up the reins with the Connor / Future War stuff. I think there is some real potential there. Watching T2 again last night. The opening sequence and the mystique surrounding adult John Connor have me wanting those stories.
If The Rock does come in as a Terminator, it could be interesting, but how many times can we keep sending Terminators back into the past?? I guess there is always the Future to send them into!

Yeah I hate how franchises get ruined by bad sequels.
But hey, in the future we will be able to send something back in time, something like... a ROBOT IN HUMAN DISGUISE to kill the responsible people and prevent the movie from ever getting made! |
