Rough sketch for a painting I would like to do some time. I need some crits on the perspective, I've never really done anything like this, so I'm swimming in uncharted waters. For me atleast.

Made an edit on my own limited understanding. Seems a little more true to the vanishing point.

VVV Thanks for the input, I'm experincing insomnia right now. VVV

Dude, can you tell me what brushes you used to get that texture like in "The Styx" and "Daily Rituals"? It looks fantastic!

RasselTassel, your style is so awesome and unique. Well, at least I haven't seen anything very similar to it that I can remember.
zhuzhu, your pictures just scream class. The warrior was great, but the woman's dress is perhaps my favourite part of your work so far. The way the lighting colours it... Oh yeah, I'm not supposed to be nice to you, but jealous, greedy and conceited instead. Sorry.
Heysoos, very cool! I love the lighting behind the person's head from our perspective. As someone else said, if you use a custom brush, please share it. *drools*
Matthew, solid work! Perspective scares me still. Speaking of Hellboy, I should go watch it soon.
Mitsui, lovely colours!
stephan, I can picture myself in that room, walking through that room, getting attacked by one of those blasted Doom 3 imps as soon as I OPEN the door, giving me a heart attack. Gaah!

Paint to post!

sure, thanks for the comments. Its not so much a custom brush but a way of collaging textures. I use my digi cam and go around looking for cool textures in the world. A lot of the textures I use are super close up shots of my oil paintings where I use very thick and gloppy paint which has a very cool texture to it. Also rocks, tree bark, cracks in pavement, etc etc. The main thing is to see things in terms of pure mark making and not so much in terms of what they actually are (so if your doing a painting of a tree you wouldn't necessarily want to take a picture of tree bark to fill it with as that might come off cheesy). Then, with photoshop, either I start off by collaging the textures together and then paint transparently on top of it or I paint the image and then infuse different textures into parts of it, or sometimes I do both. Its pretty fun and adds a more organic feel to the painting, and also an unpredictability as the textures sometimes "paint" a part of the image that you didn't really know was there. Heres a few examples of the textures I use.

kimchi: thanks. Embarassed I'm a little nervous of posting more painterly stuff.

Heysoos: Love the stuff you've been posting lately.

Right... one more for tonight. Based on a photo I took of a canal nearby on what Scots would call a "dreich" day...
