Unreal engine v3

omg, this is amazing. I have seen a similar video before from some convention but this one was way more detailed and with bigger resolution, maybe u guys haven't seen it. It was posted in the cgtalk news aswell, well yea a while back, thought u guys wanted to see this one though.

Enjoy, remember though this file is very big, 169.5 MB
http://www.sonsofvanu.com/dl/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=24

The games are gonna be dangerous in the future I tell u.
Snif I am still waiting for Quake 4 though but it seems like this Unreal game will be very cool.

screenshot to go with the post, copyright IGN.com

have a nice day. Smile
oh maan I gotta run and look at the video again

Im with you Aphelionart.. HL2 is so tantalizing its painful.. sigh

Admittedly Id love to see(play) a good game where this Unreal 3 engine was used effectively.. not just a tech demo.

Actually there is no game that will ever be good without having a compelling story. The formula is the same for film and video; you can have all the coolest stuff in the world, but without a compelling story it'll fall flat. For video games there needs to be a new standard or bar raising for story telling; IMHO this would be further enhancing the interactivity of the story and the A.I. Half Life raised the bar some for shooters, because it had a level of interactivity that no shooter up until then had, and the story was flat out awesome. Also there was a geekiness to Gordon Freeman and his horn rimmed glasses that we could all relate too; he wasn't a superhuman - he could've been any of us.

Battlefield 1942 raised the bar for FPS multiplayer; where else could actually pilot a seafaring vessell, a tank, jeep, plane just runn around in a massive environment? Way cool. Way very, very cool.

It is my opinion that the games of today and the technology they're built on could easily be applied to other industries. Take VRML - it sucks. Why not use the Doom 3 or Unreal technology to replicate some of the world's most visited spots and go there online with other people? Sure, the client has to install the engine and have the map, but it beats VRML, imo.

Just a thought.

yes I agree there has to be some new storytelling cause most of the times everything is repeated over and over.
A cool idea would be a game that changed everytime u played it. Imagine u logged on to the game to find yourself in a totally new place and had to fight your way out of there and all of a sudden the manuscript changed again. hehe a bit like that Dark City with Kiefer Sutherland, a game that changed itself. A.I. here I come. Smile

Well what do I know, but one thing though I think Virtual reality will become bigger. Kinda surprised though, is vrml the only thing? I guess there are vrml 2 also but hmm I don't know much about this stuff.

Wow, damn, that's indeed awesome. There will be ALOT more game related jobs out there with that engine eh? I mean who will model, texturize, etc all that stuff....?? woohhh...it's going in the direction of Hollywood bugets.
Not a good thing.....Rolling Eyes

But no matter how good graphics are, I had my best game experiences with my old N64...Zelda for example. No other game even with the most awesome graphics ever could give me the same....feeling, athmosphere, whatever you wanna call it. There just has to be more than visual elements. Yes,...Story, I agree with you on that Gort.
Same with the movies.
Anyway, I like looking at cool graphics too...that stuff looks awesome...
Slowly going into the direction of living in the Matrix, who would not like to be Neo in a wonderful super realistic game...

Yeah, Max - remember "Full Throttle"? It was sprite based and anything but cutting edge compared to the existing technologies of the time (Quake was about to be unleashed). I loved FT - awesome story - very compelling.

Good ol' Ben. I wonder if LucasArts will ever do a remake . . .

By the way, Matthew, thanks for the video link; the video is fantabulous!!

There is no war in Georgia right now, thankfully. I'll keep you updated if anything happens. I'm in Atlanta. Wink

My arguement holds true whether we're talking about board games or not. I can understand the arguement that Doom is boring because there's no story, however, that's just one opinion and not a fact that holds true for all players. If you're looking for an example that isn't a puzzle game or similar, just look to previous id titles with minimun story, but people play the hell out of multiplayer.

personally, i wouldn't play a game repeated times just because i like the story. it's all in the gameplay.. needs to be a decent challenge but also remain fresh throughout the game... and multiplayer games just hav to leave lots of improvement room for competition.. counterstrike just gives you weapons n the players you face make it interesting Very Happy

Downloading, at a rate of SLOW kb/s.

Yeah, the engine looks awesome. I was quite stunned that Doom 3 ran on my computer (1.4 ghz, 256 mb ram, geforce 2 mx (32 mb)), but hell, the Unreal and Unreal Warfare engines has previously given me miraculously good framerates, so maybe even games powered by the third Unreal engine will run well on low-end systems. One can hope.

Someone should make a painting mod, where you can walk around a canvas in first-person and paint on it from various angles. Different guns are, of course, replaced by various brushes. Razz

Wow. That was truly AMAZING. Real-time HDRI lighting? Millions of polygons on each character, projected onto a low-poly model? The physics even seemed better than those of the Half-Life 2 engine. I'm stunned.

Not to bash or anything, but the technology in the U3 engine is far from new. The art assets make most of the detail. Doom 3 and Farcry both implement almost all the technology in U3, apart from offset bump mapping( a 10 minute addition to the farcry engine, don't ask how I know), and HDR lighting( also not very hard ).

Doom3 textures are very much stylized, with black outlines going all over the place. To me it makes it look cartoonish. Also, real application of the U3 engine using current hardware will probably look just like farcry or doom3, since the amount of shadow/lighting calculations will be very limited( doom3 only uses the closest lightsource to an object to calculate shadow, with a few exceptions when needed ). The U3 demo looks great because it's not a real application, only a demo. But I guess by the time it is released in a game, hardware will have improved greatly, and so you will be able to see all the cool effects in the demo in realtime. But that's not gauranteed.

They did a sequel to it (fullthrottle) and then cancelled it near the end of development. I doubt we'll be seeing any remakes...

Hell, thank god or whomever they did cancel the "sequel". It was about to ruin the franchise, if you can call it that. Full Throttle - Hell on Wheels was supposed to be an "action-adventure". Read: we take the full throttle name and rip everything out of it that made people love it, well only keep the bike-fights and put a huge explosion on the box so it sells. Until someone uncovered their secret plans and made it public and they went like "OMG what are we gonna do?!" and canned it. Amen.
